My stupid thing for the day.....Souldrifter

The day was going so well. Things I thought would bother me, like the car being covered in ice and snow this morning, I handled with ease. Even the boss was out of the office all day, which took a strain off. I gave several job interviews and had a couple of meetings that didn't drag on and on all day. It was all good.

Then quitting time comes and I think "yeah, I get to go home". I went out to my car and noticed it was covered in ice and snow again...no big deal. My drivers side door was frozen shut but lucky me...the passanger side wasn't. I climbed in and started the ignition to warm up the car as I brushed off the snow and ice. Then I went to get back in the nice warm car to go home and guess what...I had locked myself out. Apparently I had accidentally hit the automatic lock thingy on my way out of the car. So there I was. Car running (low on fuel I might add) and all the doors locked shut. Well, I'm thinking they aren't locked. Just frozen. So maybe if I get a crow bar I can pry open the drivers side. Not good for the car but at least I would be out of this pickle. Not so easy either. I call hubby and of course he can't come and rescue me this time. He says, brake the darn window if you have to and I'll get it fixed. So I take the crow bar but I guess I didn't have the strength or the guts or something. Ended up cutting my hand some how thouge. Car...still locked and running.

*sigh* I ended up calling a tow company to come unlock me. Meanwhile the car is running all nice and toasty for me as I'm sitting there with frost bitten fingers. Did I tell you I left my gloves in the tightly locked peice of junk I drive? It took an hour for the tow guy to get there and about 2 minutes to unlock it. What a relief. Just in time to run into a snow storm on the way home...which I would have avoided had I NOT locked the gosh darn car with the engine running.

Oh I left out the best part of my stupidity. When I called the tow company guy I started babbling on about my dilemna almost in tears, going on and on, and the guy on the phone said "sorry about all that lady. Wish I could help you but you've got the wrong number" *sigh* Sooooo, How was your day?

How it changed my life:

I now have a new found phobia of locking myself out of my car.

Date: 1/13/2004 4:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 62367    Don't feel bad. I've done this too. I even locked myself out of my home at 3am wearing a brief sleep Tee and a jacket. It was 30 degrees outside. I walked to the nearby 7-11, called a locksmith and waited on my steps for 2 hours for the guy to get there. I survived but the next time this happened, I took a paving stone and broke the locked glass storm door and let myself in rather than go through the wait and embarrassment again. I have a front storm door that is very easy to accidently lock. I hope you have a better day tomorrow.
Date: 1/13/2004 4:40:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30747    Thanks sweetness and you are right. It could have run out of gas but there was a guarter tank left when I got in. Enough to get home.
Date: 1/13/2004 4:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30747    I don't feel so bad now Peridotcat. I have locked myself out of my home before. At least I thought I had. I called the superintendant to let me in and all I really had to do was turn the knob the other way instead of the way I had been turning it. Gosh I can be so dumb sometimes. lol. I amaze myself.

Date: 1/13/2004 4:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 45948    O you poor thing. I remember one time when I locked my keys in the car at work only I didn't realize it until time to go. When I was in the break room getting my things out of my locker (that didn't lock that well) I couldn't find my keys so I was convinced someone had "stolen" my keys and thus taken my car too. I was freaking and called the cops and everything. When they got there I was so embarrassed when they told me the car was sitting out front. At least they were nice enough to get it unlocked for me after they got done laughing. Love,
