Daydreaming?

When I was younger, I used to play with a neighbour's granddaughter whenever she visited her grandmother.

Every so often, she would go off into what's best described as a daydream but, the differences were that she was sat stone still and she didn't blink for what seemed like ages! I used to just sit patiently waiting her for to "come back" and when she did, everything was as it was before. These episodes didn't seem to have any peculiar effect on her.

Then I didn't see her for a long time until she visited her grandmother when we were teenagers. I was with another friend but we all got together anyway this one time and my neighbour's granddaughter, had one of her "daydreams" again. My friend was stunned. So, I explained to her basically what I said above. What we noticed this time, though, when she "came back" she hadn't even heard us discussing her!

I wonder what was actually happening with her?

Date: 1/13/2004 11:52:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 52746    I don't know. It's been years since I've seen her and when I last did, I was too young to ask her intelligent questions! LOL.
Date: 1/13/2004 11:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 59418    wow, that is strange! I daydream a lot, but when ppl talk to my i usually snap out of it pretty quick.
Date: 1/13/2004 11:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 59418    sorry...*when people talk to me
Date: 1/13/2004 12:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    sounds like a seizure.
Date: 1/13/2004 12:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 25756    I daydream a lot, but normally if someone talks to me I'll snap out of it...maybe she was just really getting into her day dreams? One of my friends, when she watches TV, sometimes you can sit there yelling her name and she won't move a muscle or hear a word you say...of course she's watching TV which is a bit different from daydreaming, but still...I kind of tone noises out when I'm reading or thinking really deeply about something. That is interesting!
Date: 1/13/2004 12:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 58334    It sounds normsal to me. I daydream and I don't blink. i tune people out and usually don't hear what they say. Once I didn't blink for 5 minutes
Date: 1/13/2004 12:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 40530    I do this all the time and I think it's a minor epileptic fit (no idea how to spell it) I read an article and these sound like the minour epileptic fits they described
Date: 1/13/2004 1:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 26733    Sounds like she most likely has epilepsy. Matt aka
Date: 1/13/2004 1:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 55386    I do that too. I just start thinking about something, and cut loose from reality. People usually have to like, hit me. I can't hear them or anything, just what I'm thinking about. I don't blink for a long time either.
Date: 1/13/2004 1:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 62503    yeah it sounds like mild epilepsy which is seizures which can be serious but in her case at the time didnt seem to have a significant effect. My good friend has epilepsy but hers is very serious. she goes into the shaking episodes of seizures and everything
Date: 1/13/2004 2:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 14780    i have worked with children that have seizures and thats what they do.
Date: 1/13/2004 6:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    I can't spell but here goes anyway. Sometimes that happens when kids are "autistic." It can also be catagorized as a seizure..
Date: 1/14/2004 12:39:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 52746    Wow, all this is interesting. Of course, when you're younger, you don't realise what it is. I haven't seen her years so I hope her parents noticed and got her some help. Thanks for your replies.
