Ok..lol that's a lot of questions, but here I go: I think people want to be famous because it gives them some sort of power. They are well-known, and people all over the world know who they are. I think you know when a fan is obsessed when they murder the person they adore :P I believe that life can be very full without being famous. In my opinion, fame is not as much as it is cracked up to be. I would rather be on the sidelines, and be a good friend to people, and know who my real friends are, than be famous. Although I would like to get a novel or two published As for why we are so interested in the lives of the famous, I was wondering that today myself. There are SOOO many magazines that are basically dedicated to famous people. I think that us little people like to live vicariously through the lives of famous people, because their lives SEEM so much more interesting than ours. And as for "can you go back," I don't know. Some people fall off the face of the earth, and others seem to never escape the spotlight. People I haven't heard of in ages all of a sudden turn up on the front of then Enquierer (or however it is spelled), because of some scandal or another. |

these are a lot of great questions, and I'm sure i don't know how to answer them all. but i guess people want to be famous because it makes them feel important. when someone is famous, then all eyes seem to be on them, they're in the spot light.. i mean, i want to be well known for my writing and singing.. but with fame comes the lies, rumors, and pain that others in the world can cause... i'm not sure if its worth it.. and once you step in, you can't step back out.. you're stuck even if you really want to get out of it. |

Seems to me one of the worst parts is the people around a famous person who doesn't want to tell the star no...or that something might not be such a good idea, as in the case of Michael Jackson. If he truly had any close friends or family members they would have told him sleeping with children and announcing it to the public isn't such a hot idea. Not only does it look bad, it could open him up to law suits. Seems to me that the media also loves to build people up and than tear them down. Case in point is Jennifer Lopez and Ben whatshisname..or "Bennifer" as the press dubbed them. I never understood the obsession with those two, but the media loved them for some reason, than took great pleasure in tearing them down when there movie together came out. From what I saw of the previews it never looked as horrible as all the reviews said it was. |

being famous, somehow gives that person a 'high feeling' of power of authority, being wanted and self-esteem raised...still, everything comes with a price. Popularity, everyone wants success since we are only humans with desires demands and needs to be fufilled fully. Humans search for the imperfection that are perfect in 'others'. The 'others' such as celebrities, their image are being magnified and personified according to their liking. They love that, their imperfections are somehow healed by the imaginary 'perfection' of others. Yes, definitely we CAN live without being famous. The question is, 'do you want to be famous?' OR 'do you want to have been famous'...great post here.. wish i could go on and on about this coz I myself currently studying the media and psychology. hehe, nevermind! i better not babble on about this =) |

I don't think I've ever wanted to be famous. For the most part I don't care about famous people either. I watch movies ocasionally, but I don't care who the actors are married to or anything about their personal lives. |

First question: I think alot of people want to be famous because they see these people being praised and they see all the benefits that they receive. Others may also want to become famous to follow a dream of singing or acting, and nothing is wrong with that, but I say instead of trying to become famous if you really love something do it for that sake and for the happiness and personal gain you get from it. Second question: When your in the spot-light and you target a specific group of people, younger, you have alot of influence. Many of these famous people should not be seen as a role model, and I don't think thats what they intended either, but our society always hangs on every word or action. Younger children copy the things they see....and will pick up on many beliefs they hear. They don't grow into individuals but what society sees as the most praised people. Think about all the doctors, police officers, firefighters...who risk their lives everyday.... we don't hear about them the same way we hear about those who are famous. The best part is if you have real talent and want to share it with the world; and also the influence and power you receive you can use for good. The worst is that your life is not your own anymore, you must work on a schedule according to demands. Your away from family, friends...loved ones. And also, people don't always do it because they love it, they do it for money and sometimes send out the wrong messages. I think anyone can have a great life, whether they are famous or not. The best lives consist of love and the compassion you put into all you do. And helping one another. Just because you are famous does not mean you have a great life, or that being famous will give you a great life... it must come from within. Happiness cannot be bought. I don't want to be famous, but rather continue with my hopes and dreams and that is to help others, because the greatness in my life comes from love and faith. |

I see the "why" many want to be famous in two ways. One, people want to be different from the masses. People want to stick out, be special, and think that this adds to their lives. Second, people always have loved ones or life-long friends/acquaintances that they want to "show" how "great" they can be. Fame is a vehicle to show those close to us what we have and how we can beat the world. |
