My Cat Was Stuck In a Tree 36 Hours In Snow and Freezing Temps.

My cat, Suzy was stuck up in a tree for 36 hours after escaping undetected Thursday night. She was up there 36 hours in the snow and then below freezing temperatures. I was frantic. I called and coaxed and tried every trick I could think of to coax her down to no avail. We knew that sooner or later hunger would drive her down, but the weather was so bad it was worring me to death. Our backyard is such that it would have been impossible to get a firetruck or cherry picker back where she was. Finally, my husband, after seeing her lose her balance twice and almost fall, had to cut into the tree trunk and lower the tree as gently as he could. It was a small tree, and she was able to jump off safely when it neared the ground. She's o.k. and very happy to be back in her warm bed with food and water to drink. We don't know what caused her to climb the tree, but I suspect she was in pursuit of a possum. We very seldom have dogs loose in this neighborhood.

My husband took this shot of her just before cutting down the tree.

How it changed my life:

I'm just happy and relieved that she is safe. I was absolutely worried sick.

Date: 1/11/2004 7:07:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798    She escaped sometime Thursday night and wasn't missed until I fed my babies Friday morning. My husband and I searched and searched (I was late for work because of it). We could hear her crying but could not see her. I thought maybe she was trapped somewhere, but no...my husband finally looked up and there she was about 100 feet up that tree sitting on the tree's one limb which was a pretty small limb.

(I didn't get much sleep Friday night, either and I was out in the wee hours of the morning trying to call her down.)
