Another Glance in the Mirror

I looked into the mirror today
and I did not flinch
nor did I curse my baggage,
I couldn't turn away.
My gaze seemed focused
on something bigger
than any of my dreams.
A light shone from my eyes
where shadows had once been.
How much I've grown
was etched out
perfectly framing my features
knowing the truth,
behind so many lies,
Yet here I was standing
with my head held high
Finally able to piece together
the things that never fit.
I studied my reflection
now being able to see
the person I truly am
not the one who hid
in a land of make believe.
No this time I was real,
I was free.
