Date: 1/5/2004 9:28:00 AM From Authorid: 15070 Debbie-I would go to a computer software store &^ pick-up a designer program. I bought my Father a real nice one last year (where you can even register the domain name of your choice) for less than thirty dollars. I only mention it because it was a fill-in-the-blanks program, it offered all the bells &^ whistles you could want, and this way Dad could build what he wanted, instead of my trying to figure out what he needed. This way your husband can design the program he wants, and you can get the domain name that you want. Otherwise, I really cannot remember a good free program. I think Trillex was one, but it has been a long time since I built a web site. Good luck! |
Date: 1/5/2004 9:32:00 AM ( Admin-FA ) I love Geocities. |
Date: 1/5/2004 9:35:00 AM From Authorid: 13969 I host my own website on my own server. The good thing about that is that you have no limit on space (Except for what is on your harddrive) and no limit on bandwidth except how fast your connection is. |
Date: 1/5/2004 9:42:00 AM From Authorid: 14754 Geocities only allows you to work on the web sit for a significant amount of time, and then you get an error message saying you used your aloted time...try tripod, iam not sure if they do this as well. |

Date: 1/5/2004 10:24:00 AM From Authorid: 55536 I make my own webpages using Netscape Composer but have also used FrontPage. I have websites on Geocities, Tripod, Freeyellow, Homestead and DomainValet as well as Shaw (my ISP). I use Netscape to design my own page and then upload it to the particular site I want to put it on. I find that all of the design programs within the sites are very limiting and because I want a certain look to my sites I can design whatever I want for my page. Composer is a part of Netscape browser and can be downloaded free if you don't already have it. If you are using Windows and IE as your browser Frontpage should already be on your system. |

Date: 1/5/2004 2:01:00 PM From Authorid: 55536 Firstborn Go take a look at mine at http://members.shaw.ca/leemarsh/home.html It is an easy format (Use the one with Works if that is what you have). I use tables to organize the page. When you are in the program just type the page the way you want it to look. It will set up the page quite easily. Just remember that when it converts your page to html code that it cannot remember more than one space at a time - sort of like in here. If you want something to start indented use tables (you can make the table frame invisible by formatting the table). Once you have your page set up just tell Word to convert it to html and save. Then upload to the site you have registered at. Most of the sites mentioned above will allow you to use your own formatted page. If you call it index.html your page will overwrite their index page. I ignore their index page and just use home.html and basically use that as my home page instead of the index page. You can add other pages by creating the page and making links to it from your first page. When you upload it to the website you have to upload the page and all images separately. If you want more help just contact me |
Date: 1/5/2004 2:05:00 PM From Authorid: 1225 I used to use www.i-p.com but they've been inaccessible for months! They were really great, no ads whatsoever! Geocities is my next and current choice: www.geocities.com/startrekfordummies |
