I was reading "Power of Myth" by Joseph Campbell and I came accross this story.
A samurai had tracked and captured a man who had slain his overlord (the samurai's overlord). The samurai pulled out his sword getting ready to advenge his overlord when out of desperation the other man spit in his face. The samurai slowly lowered his sword, placed it back into his shethe and walked away. Why had he done this? The reason being that the samurai had come to kill out of vengence not anger, and when the man spit on him it had made him very mad. And out of horor he could not kill the man.
