Part 2
It was cold and dark, all I could see was a small light coming in a window across the room. A pain was running through my body. My head felt like it was spinning. A voice came from across the room. “Madison, Madison are you awake?”
“Madison my name is Doctor Kohl,” the man said walking across the room. “Do you know why you are here?”
I looked around the room, seeing more carefully now. I was in a hospital, there was an I.V running from my left arm and flowers along the floor not far from the bed. I looked up at him not answering his question. “Where is everyone else?”
“Madison, please one thing at a time. You were in an accident yesterday afternoon,” he paused as if he had to think about what he was going to say next. “You luckily aren’t in too bad of condition. You were lucky young lady, your leg is broken and you bruised your ribs but that’s about it.”
“What about everyone else,” I asked him getting more frustrated. My mind was racing. “What the heck happened,” I said wanted to know.
“Madison I think you should talk to your parents. We will be sending you home in the morning,” he said turning away and walking out the door.
I knew that moment something wasn’t right. My parents came in and hugged me tight. “Madison we need to talk to you.”
“I don’t want to talk,” I insisted. “What happened just tell me what happened.” “You guys got into an accident on Mill Lane, hit a tree straight on. No one knows what caused it, maybe Kate lost control or was going to fast,” my mother said pausing for a moment.
“Well where is she? And what about Eric and Jeff,” I asked looking from my mother to my father.
“Jeff is in the next room. He’s got a couple broken ribs and he’s banged up pretty badly,” my father said and paused.
“Ok, what about Kate and Eric,” I said knowing something had to be terribly wrong.
My father paused and looked at my mother then back at me. “Eric is in critical condition they don’t think he’ll make it through the night,” he paused again. “He wasn’t wearing a seat belt.”
I shock my head and turned away. “And Kate?”
“Hunny, we rather you get some rest,” my mother said softly.
“Just tell me,” I screamed tears starting to run down my face. I knew it had to be the worse I just needed to hear it to believe it.
“Madison,” my father paused looking at my mother. “I’m sorry, she didn’t make it.”
Tears streamed down my face. This couldn’t be happening this is not how life was supposed to be. “Leave me alone please.”
“Madison, the doctors,” my mother started to say but I cut her off. “Please I asked you to leave me alone,” I said again.
They left the room slowly, looking back at me a few times. This couldn’t be happening. At least I didn’t believe it at the time, but things would be less “normal” in the weeks to come. I would be released from the hospital on the same day as Jeff, and two days later Eric would join Kate. Then for Jeff and I things would get strange, very strange to say the least.
