How much money does it cost to spend a month in California? ++Nimiwae++

How much momey do you think you would need to take with you if you are spending a month in California? Including staying at a hotel (not an expensive one, not too much money) I might be spending some time down there in a few months and want to be prepared for a months stay. I already have money for a roundtrip ticket, just need the area costs.

Date: 1/1/2004 11:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 44960    A months stay in California? Nah, They dont make that much money! Just take what money you have and leave before it runs out!
Date: 1/1/2004 11:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 36704    hotels are more expensive after May in the LA area, probably three to four thousand
Date: 1/1/2004 11:44:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 58334    yikes that's a lot. Is it per night? I'll be going sometime in April
Date: 1/1/2004 11:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 59876    it would probably be more cost effective, not to mention safer lol, to stay just outside of l.a. transportation a factor?
Date: 1/1/2004 11:49:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 58334    hmm...i think i will stay somewhere outside of la, lol i don't like those costs. it is, afterall, just a pleasure trip so it doesn't matter where I stay as long as I am there
Date: 1/1/2004 11:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 36704    You can try a place that rents for a month but they're usually in the thousands also, april might be a little cheaper but sometimes they raise the rates during certain weeks for spring break. You many be able to do it for 2-3 thousand if you find a cheap place outside of LA.
Date: 1/1/2004 1:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 62181    it depends on what part of cali...northern or southern? I'd say for a cheap motel you are looking at anywhere from $50+70 a night I lived in Sacramento and stayed in the ghetto motel of the century for 2 days before I moved to Utah and paid $65 a night....yikes...
Date: 1/1/2004 1:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 62181    oh I forgot you can stay in a motel for a week at a time for $350-$400 a week....
Date: 1/1/2004 3:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    I'm staying in California for a week or two next summer because I'm going on a cross country road trip with some friends.. I plan to be taking at least $1000 cash with credit cards..
Date: 1/1/2004 3:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 28363    What part of LA? downtown proper, by the (LAX)airport, or sou central? That's a huge place and very expensive. I use to live near venice and other places around LA.
Date: 1/1/2004 4:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 59876    i might also add that san diego is much nicer than l.a. lol. of course i'm biased though, i grew up in san diego lol.
Date: 1/2/2004 10:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 16671    The best thing to do is to get one line, and do a run of motels that rent by the month. There are also places that just rent rooms out to people from their houses. Then all you have to do is figure out your food costs and entertainment cost. OR if your really high on adventures, grab a blanket and stay on the beach.
Date: 1/2/2004 10:33:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 58334    Can you actually do that?? lol
Date: 1/2/2004 2:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 57653    I feel for ya....it's hard to find good places to stay when you aren't familiar with the city you are going to . I would suggest you look online...find some in your price range and then post here and see if anybody is familiar witht he ones you are interested in staying at. That way you know if it's in a good area, if it's not too seedy etc. I myself live in the Long Beach area so probably wouldn't be of much help to ya...but good luck!
