What Is USM's Religion Section? ......<by LSG>

  Author:  15070  Category:(Religious) Created:(12/31/2003 11:57:00 PM)
This post has been Viewed (1246 times)

When you go to post a story in the Religion section of USM, you will see the following:

"Our purpose for the religious section is to provide a forum so you can share your religious beliefs and/or the positive effects your experiences has had in your daily life...Posts or comments that disrespect, degrade or insult other religions or beliefs will be deleted at the Admins discretion.... For those that wish to 'argue' their religious ideas, we have provided a debate section for you to post in....Thank you.."

In addition, you will also see-----> "Sorry, if you include vulgar language, attack others, racist remarks, is not a story, or generally does not fit within the posted category, your story will be deleted. "<-----listed before every catagory when you go to post a story in ANY area of USM.

Now-I think that spells out pretty well exactly what the owners of this site (and they are our hosts during the time we are here actually), think is acceptable behavior while you are visiting in the Religion Section.

When you post a story that does not fit in the guidelines that have been spelled out in a couple of places of USM, that post will be deleted. Now, instead of becoming angry with the Admin, or Monitor who deleted you, remember the reason you were deleted.

No one is picking on you, no one is singling you out.

The subject of Religion is intensely personal. We have seen in the "real" world, more wars have been fought over religious intolerance than any other. We only need to look to Northern Irland, The Middle East, and Waco, to see this is true.

Now-you might be asking yourself, "Right.....well, how is MY defending MY religion going to HURT anyone?". Well, I think the question would be: Why do I need to attack, or belittle another religion, in order to validate my own?

The reason I am posting this is: we have a lot of new USM'ers who did not see the "Religious Wars" here on USM. Friendships were ruined, and things got pretty heated. There are also a few "older" USM'ers who know better, and still try to open a "religious discussion/debate" in this area.

The problem is: friendly discussion/debates can get very heated, very quickly. If you need proof, just look to the "Debate" section.

Radman & Ginger have corrected the situation, by giving the Religious section the extra attention, it needed. So, please, we can all do our part by using this area for what it was originally designed for:

A place to share & fellowship, educate, and offer stories & make some lifelong friends.....

Let's help 2004 be the very best it can be at USM. There are so many wonderful people here.

Thank you for understanding!

Love & Light......LSG

Date: 1/1/2004 12:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 32806    If this is a reference to a post being deleted in that section tonight, my question is this; Why not just move it to the appropiate section so the debate/discussion can continue?
Date: 1/1/2004 12:12:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    I agree...actually this post is sort of overdue. A couple of USM'ers asked me reciently why some stories (and comments) remain, and some are deleted. Well, the Monitors & Admins are trying to be more consistant. Tonight just illustrated why this post needed to be made.
Date: 1/1/2004 12:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 32806    Well I for one have been visiting here less and less because of the lack of really good debates or discussions. Finally one crops up, albeit in the wrong section, start a good transfer of thoughts and BAM the whole lot is gone. In the past I remember posts being moved to the appropiate section for them. Personnaly I feel I have just wasted my time here tonight after putting a fair amount of thought into the deleted topic just to have it wiped.
Date: 1/1/2004 12:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 32806    Not my post btw, I was a replier to it
Date: 1/1/2004 12:27:00 AM  ( Admin-13 )   Great post LSG and very well said. Much love and hugs to you and to ALL!
Date: 1/1/2004 12:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 32806    Methinks if someone has the power to completely wipe a post (an extreme measure) then they should also have the power to move it to the correct section (not an extreme measure). They should have both or neither power. Seems only Rad and Ginger can move posts but any of the admins/monitors can delete. Hmmmmmmm. Although I agree with the reasons why said post wasn't appropiate for the religious section, as in it was a debate, I think Rad, Ginger and the admins/monitors have an issue to address here.
Date: 1/1/2004 12:40:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    Sagi10-I am a Monitor. I do not have the advanced tools to move a story to a different area of USM. Besides, anyone who has been a member of USM for a while knows what is, and is not acceptable at USM, right? I am sorry you have been coming here less.
Date: 1/1/2004 12:43:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    Sagi10-I will also point out, and I am not being defensive here, that people can make mistakes. I have no problem with G&G looking at anything I do. After all they are the ones who entrusted me to do this. BUT-there are rules at USM about questioning Admins & Monitors in an open forum. Now, you did not write the post, and frankly I don't owe you an explaination in any case. If you want G&G to look into the matter, I am sure they will.....~Peace~
Date: 1/1/2004 12:45:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    Hangman-thank you for the vote of confidence,
Date: 1/1/2004 12:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 53052    great post i agree whole heartedly!
Date: 1/1/2004 12:47:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    Please ref'r to:"will be deleted at the Admins discretion.... " that is all the authority I need. If you want more lively discussions, perhaps you can write one?
Date: 1/1/2004 12:47:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    thank you Midnighty! BTW-Happy New Year!!!!!
Date: 1/1/2004 1:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 3125    Sis, I have been explaining the rules to a person who had gotten his post deleted tonight. He is new and he really didn't understand why his post was deleted. I explained the rules and I suggested that he repost it in the discussion section. I understand the deletion of the post, but I think it would be a good idea to tell someone in advance that their post is going to be deleted because it is in the wrong section. That way, they would have a chance to move it to a more appropiate one. Sometimes people put a lot of work into a post, then if it gets deleted, maybe they haven't copied and saved it and if it gets deleted, their work is gone. This can be so frustrating and discouraging. Just a suggestion BTW..Happy Birthday and have a great 2004!!
Date: 1/1/2004 1:16:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    Oh, Barb....I understand. It is frustrating to work hard on a post & then *poof*, it's gone. I really did not look at the ID# of the author. If so, I would have seen it was a "newbie". Happy New Year to you too! I love you Sis!!!!
Date: 1/1/2004 5:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 160    As long as your reasons for deleting a post are not because of prejudice and/or interpertation. Because you have deleted posts that there was no problem on.
Date: 1/2/2004 10:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 16671    A long time ago, I posted in this section and the admin involved let me know that it was deleted due to being in the wrong section, BUT they also included the body of my post so that it wasnt lost and I could re post it in another section. This is the main reason why people get frustrated at being deleted is because they didnt save a copy of what they worked on. As most of us do forget to do. Its not that hard for the one that is deleting the story to copy and paste it into the message to the person whos post is getting deleted. I agree with you LSG that there has been way to much debating in this section and it needs to stop.
Date: 1/2/2004 6:37:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    PamyJo, G&G entrusted me to be a Monitor BECAUSE I am unbiased, and fair. It would be an abuse of that trust, to delete comments, or stories based on my feelings about the author(s), or the subject matter. Also, it would be very childish, in my opinion. My aim is simple, G&G entrusted me to do something, and I do it, to the best of my ability. You may not have agreed with the things that I have deleted, and that is fine. This is not a commitee situation. The sites owners, our hosts, are the only people I owe, as a Monitor, ANY explaination to. I can make mistakes, anyone can, but because you think a topic, or comments are acceptable, does not necessarily make it so. That is where the difference of opinion(s) come in. FB-yes, I agree-there has been a lot of past abuse(s) in the Religion section of USM, which is why G&G gave it extra attention. <I miss a few on the Religious Monitors who no longer come to USM.> I think I am pretty approachable when it comes to discussing things. Really (LOL), do you thing G&G would trust me with these tools if they did NOT think I could be fair? *smiles*
Date: 1/2/2004 10:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    This is not the place for debating, for sure. I like what you said, " A place to share and fellowship, educate, and offer stories, and make lifelong friends"... What a great post!
Date: 1/4/2004 11:40:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    FOR THE RECORD-will not debate my decisions here, in a public forum. As I have stated, IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ANYTHING I HAVE DELETED, PLEASE DISCUSS IT WITH THE SITES OWNERS, GEORGE AKA RADMAN (101), OR GINGER. THEIR TAGS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE UNDER "FAQ'S".
Date: 1/6/2004 7:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 62132    ^_^ I'm still quite new here and I agree with you! Thanks for sharing this. -hugs-
Date: 1/8/2004 1:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 28989    I found myself falling into the debate trap in the religion section a few times. Oops! Thanks for the reminder. Whenever I feel the debating itch, I try to head over to the debate section, but by the time I get there, I'm all nice and agreeable and not much of a debater!
