My dog always runs away but she always finds her way home. Your dog will do the same he if gets out again. Dogs are very smart. |

My dog has done that a couple of times, and he worries me everytime he does. I don't know if he may get hit by a car someday and I not know it, or he has bad hips, what if he slips and can't walk back home or something?? I understand how you feel. I don't hit my dog, I just say BAD, and give him a hug for coming home. |

I hate it when my dogs run away too. What's really bad is I live in the country and if one of my dogs gets off their chain or gets out of the house they run a mile down the road and go to people's houses and kill chickens or get run over. So I have to run about a mile down a stretch of highway where the speed limit is about 55 mph, catch them, and drag them all the way back home. |

Yeah i refuse to hit my animals. it doesnt seem to get to them anyway. they can tell when they are in trouble just by looking at me and just saying something in a low stern voice is much more effective. Just be very careful not to leave your door open and make sure your dog has tags so that way if it gets loose and someone catches it they can call you or return your doggy =) |

OOOOOK don't hit him....but rule number one when an animal gets out. DON'T chase them....don't go running after them screaming...it's their instinct to run. My dog use to do the same thing (though he's a fence jumper) Or he'd yank the leash away or break the leash believe me we've had many a chase with him....we found the best bet is to just kinda walk maybe jog after him and call...but NOT to yell and NOT to run full blast at them...My neighbors dog gets out every now and then and we all go out there with my dog cause she'll come running when she see's him LOL |

he won't learn that he did wrong if you hug him after he does that. would you spank your kid for running out in the street? just like kids, dogs have to learn. i'm NOT saying beat the dog but a swat on the rump is better than a squished pup aint it? |
