Hey peoples :)

This is one of my major pet peeves. Sometimes when I walk into a store, I can feel the workers there eyeing me as if I was about to steal something. I hate that so much! It's as if they're judgeing me how I dress, that I look like someone that steals. Know what I'm saying?

A couple years ago, I was in Kay B Toys store with my bf at the time and my brother. When we walked into the door, I over heard one of the co-workers saying to another co-worker, "If they steal something, we'll call the cops" or something like that.

We looked around the store and my brother bought some Voltron Toy for 40 bucks and we left the store. Just when we were about to get close to my car, the manger stepped right up to me and my bf at the time and said:

"You stole 100 dollars worth of Poke'mon cards last week. If I ever see you in this store again, I will call the cops" She turned around and went back into the store.

I was smiling at first because I thought that she was joking. I didn't know that she was the manger or even a worker there because it was something that we we'ren't expecting. I thought it was just a joke that someone was playing on us. But When I saw how serious she was, I was furious!! We were being accused for something that we didn't do!

I went to another store not too far away and called the toy store to speak with the manager. (I didn't know that it was the manger that yelled at us) The manger had answered the phone and I told them that I was furious that they accused us for stealing. And you know what she did? SHE HUNG UP ON US!

This made me even more peeved. I really wanted to sue that store for what had happened. But my dad said that he would talk to the manager. So he did. I stayed in the car because I was still upset.

My dad came back and told me that someone that looked like my brother stole 100 dollars worth of Poke'mon cards and that it was okay that me and my bf at the time could go back into the store but my brother couldn't go back into that store because my brother looked like the theif. That was so unfair!!

My dad didn't want us to go through all that sueing stuff because he thought it was a waste of time...blah blah blah.... Even to this day, I am still furious about what happened. I have never stopped foot in that store ever again.

Another time, I was walking out of Hot Topic and the alarm went off. I had a bag of clothing that I bought from another store. One of the workers stormed out of the store, grabbed my bag and looked inside it. The other store, (this was in a mall) had forgotten to take off the sucerity (sp?) tag off and it didn't go off when I had left that store. That worker made me feel like she was thinking that I was a theif.

Ugh.... I just hate it when people accuse me for stealing. I don't steal!!! Has anything like this happened to anyone else? What would have you done if you were in my shoes?

Having the alarm at a store go off and being stopped by a security office isn't a big deal. Clerks make mistakes by not swiping or removing security tags. The door things at Walmart go off all the time and people don't even pay attention to it anymore.
Date: 12/30/2003 10:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 5940    I have had that happen to me in the past. Usually the employee's or manager would be red-faced after I fully co-operated and allowed them to examine whatever it was they thought I took. I kept silent and allowed them to embarass themselves, because I knew that in the end they would realize the mistake they made. What made it worse for them was when they also found the register reciept. If they apologize for their error, then I am ok with it. But one should never be handled in a rough manner if you acted civil towards them. Then you may consider calling the main office to talk with the superiors who run the store. Hope this helps.
Date: 12/30/2003 10:08:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Azairyia....I know that they were just doing their job. But I think that the manger shouldn't of acted the way she did. Even though it's been years, I'm stiil pissed about what happened.
Date: 12/30/2003 10:12:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Hey Larry...The manager didn't even apologize to us for the mistake, which was anothing thing that got me mad. Same with the worker that grabbed my shopping bag away from me. I had my reciept with me in that bag and she looked at it. I told that the other store must of forgot to take off the tag and she just walked back into the store. It's been years since this took place, but it still gets to me.
Date: 12/30/2003 10:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 5940    PSC, I understand how you feel. In the future should something like this occur, and after the store realizes that they were in the wrong, they should offer an apology. People do make mistakes. But rest assured that no company wants to get a phone call, e-mail, or letter stating how one might have been treated rudely. If that happens to you again, try calling the district office.
Date: 12/30/2003 10:21:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Hey Larry....I will be sure to do that if that happens to me again. I know people make mistakes and they're just doindg their job which is a good thing making sure that someone isn't stealing.
Date: 12/30/2003 10:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    Have I ever been accused of stealing? No, but I've been arrested for it. xx
Date: 12/30/2003 10:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Rika....Been arrested for something that you didn't do? I've never been arrested. I'm such a good girl...lol :P

Date: 12/30/2003 10:57:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Well I'm heading to bed. Gotta work soon...Need sleep. Be back tomorrow!
Date: 12/30/2003 11:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 13897    yup, i've been accused for stealing.. but it was true so i don't blame them. haha... people have a bunch of pre-conceived ideas about who are a threat.. usually i just smile really big at them and think to myself "i'm not doing anything wrong.. HAHAAAA they can't get meeee, 'cause look at me! i'm legit!!"... ehhehehe ok now i'm just being silly. =)
Date: 12/31/2003 12:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 57232    Oh yeah! I feel like Vivian in Pretty Woman sometimes in that snooty patooty dress shop, it's just my appearance I guess? Well in my class there is this really annoying girl, a rich girl (here I am 26, sounding all high school) and she accused me of stealing her eraser (it was a Scene Design class) and I about fell off my stool when the teacher came and gave it to her, he had borrowed it. The accusation was worth it just to have it blow up in her face like that.
Date: 12/31/2003 12:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 43948    I've been busted for it too. If you get the feeling that you're getting some kind of unwanted attention, walk out of the store. You don't need to be taking that kind of bull kaka when you know yourself that you're an honest person, and screw their services if they are visually harrassin' you like that. Also try walking out suspiciously... perhaps when you are 5 or 10 feet away coming out of the store, suddenly dash away in one direction and make it look like you have a whole bunch of merch stolen. Or if you feel like you're being watched, watch them. If you catch them looking, make it appear as though you are slipping some products into your jacket or something. It gets the employees all freaked out and when you walk out of the store they will be surprised to see that the alarm didn't go off... they may even stop you then if it doesn't go off.. oh what joy. hehe.
Date: 12/31/2003 6:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 42522    Yes, me and my friend got accused of stealing from CVS. Only because we went in there one time, and we didnt buy anything. They must have asked someone that knew us, what our names were. They had every employee in the store watch our every move. I was sooo mad!
Date: 12/31/2003 8:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 56293    I've probably set off the alarms at FYE more times than I could count. They NEVER take the security things off it seems .. Or, If you walk in FYE with CD's from Circuit City .. They will go off. I've also set the alarms off at Walmart once or twice. But never because I was stealing. I hate when people accuse people or suspect them of stealing because of the way somoene looks. My brother went to this store in town, that sells hunting stuff and outerwear. And he was followed the whole time he was there. We called back to tell them that because of their rude employee's we would never buy anything from thier store again.
Date: 12/31/2003 8:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 58416    I was ata clothing store one time and this one woman walked through the bars to leave the store and it went off. Well that poor woman was there for an hour trying to leave. they patted her down numerous of times checked her bag numerous of times and nothing. Date: 12/31/2003 10:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 29798    yes, once at wal-mart, i stupidly left MY cd player in my bag and when i went through the bars the greeter dude stopped me cause the alarms went off. it was sort of embarrassing. and my mom looked at me like i was an idiot LOL. i don't know why i left my cd player in my bag. i'm just happy the old dude believed me.

Date: 12/31/2003 1:56:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Barbie...One time I bought a necklace from this one store and I went back to that store weeks later to go shopping in there again. One of the workers looked at my necklace and asked me if I was planning on buying my necklace and I told her that I already bought it weeks ago.
Date: 12/31/2003 1:58:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Social Slacker...I've set alarms off also before. A couple times, they forgot to take off the secuirty tag and they kindly asked to check my bag. I apprecitated that more than having my bag grabbed out of my hands.
Date: 12/31/2003 1:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Chickywoo...I love your taggie I would of been upset also. LOL! Definetly.
Date: 12/31/2003 2:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    MetalFan....I've seen people set off alarms with stuff like cell phones, keys and other things. I wonder how it does that though. LOL.

Date: 1/2/2004 7:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 54570    I am the type of guy that gets accused just because I fit the "Profile". I look like the "type" that would do something like that. I was told that once by a security guy at a store once. He had followed me from one end to another and I confronted him when I kept seeing him peeking around corners and through clothes display. Seems they just look at someone and based on the appearance they automatically accuse them. It seems like everytime I go to Wally World they intercom and say all zones on full defense or camera on certain isle or something. You know its bad when you and two other customers are the only ones in the store. And they are in wheelchairs at that.
Date: 1/2/2004 11:57:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    SmoknJoe...That's not cool. I've never had a security guard follow me around, not that I know of that is. I think that people shouldn't accused if they're dressed in a certain way or whatever...it should be everyone. I mean, elderly people, children, teens, adults and whomever can steal and some people don't accuse people like them...like elderly folks or even children. Know what I'm trying to say?
Date: 1/3/2004 6:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 58416    LOL I just read the comments on my taggie Ya cant have it koolade!!!! lol j/k
Date: 1/6/2004 4:11:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    LOL!
