A teenage girl was selling apples and oranges right outside of an airport..People would pass by and notice her delicious looking fruit and many would purchase one, two or even a bag full of fruit.
One day a couple of travelers, with tickets and brief-cases in their hands, had inadvertently kicked over the table which held a display of baskets of apples and oranges... Apples and oranges flew everywhere!...
Without stopping or as much as looking back, they managed to reach their planes in time for their nearly missed boarding.
While looking for his ticket, a salesman had noticed the troubled teenage girl knelling by the fruit table. As he walked over to her he had noticed that the teenage girl was totally blind!
She was softly crying, tears running down her cheeks in frustration, and at the same time helplessly groping for her spilled produce, as the crowd swirled past her. No one was stopping to assist her. No one seemed to care for her plight.
The salesman put his ticket in his pocket and he knelt on the floor with her, gathering up the apples and oranges, putting them back into the baskets, and helping her set the display up once more. As he did, he noticed that many of them had become battered and bruised; these he set aside in another basket.
When he had finished, he pulled out his wallet, and said to the girl, "Here, please take this $30 for the damaged fruit. Are you okay?"
She nodded through her tears.
He continued on with, "I hope your day wasn't spoiled too badly and I do hope you have a good day".
As the salesman started to walk away, the bewildered blind girl called out to him.
"Mister..."
He paused and turned to look back into those now smiling blind eyes.
She continued, "Are you Jesus?"
He stopped in mid-stride!..
As he slowly made his way to catch his flight, the question kept burning and bouncing about in his soul: "Are you Jesus?"
When was the last time someone mistook you for Jesus? Is this not our destiny as Christians? As Christians we are to become as much like Jesus as possible as we live and interact with a world that is blind to His love, life and grace. If we claim to know Him, then, we should live, walk and act as He would. Knowing Him is more than simply quoting Scripture and going to Church. It is actually living the Word of God and doing as He would do as life unfolds day after day.
As we approach this New Year, we need to realize that we, God's children, are the apple of His eye...And even though you, like me, have been bruised by falls...Keep in mind.. Jesus stopped what He was doing and picked us up on a hill called Calvary and paid in full for our damaged fruit.
So in this New Year, let's start living like we are worth the price He paid. Let us make this truly a New Year and live, walk, and act as He would!
Then, perhaps someone will ask you.."Are You Jesus?"
