How Do I Live With A Full Arm Cast?

I fell and broke my arm in three places. I have a full arm cast for six weeks. I'm having a terrible time coping with this. Do any of you have any ideas on how cope better with this? I can't tie shoes, bathing is a challenge. even going potty is hard. I won't even get into the discomfort of the cast it's self. Any suggestions are welcome. By the Way ....it's my right arm and I'm right handed.

Most of the people I know wraped the cast up in a garbage back and took a shower, making sure it was tied tight to the arm so that no water would get in. I have tied many a friends shoes when they couldn't so no help there sorry....well I hope everything gets better for you and you make it these next 6 weeks ok ....deathletgo

I only had to wear it three or four and then they cut it down to right below my elbow and it was a lot easier to do things. Good luck.
Date: 12/30/2003 12:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 57579    everything will come much easier once you get used to it. Dont try taking showers though take a bath and put a trash bag over your arm and dangle it out of the tub. That's what I did good luck *hugs*
Date: 12/30/2003 12:28:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27735    A bone in my elbow is broken as well as two in my wrist. The cast has t stay on the elbow. What a mess I'm in right now.
Date: 12/30/2003 1:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 1225    Find knitting needles. They allow you to scratch under the cast (and believe me you'll want to eventually). And whatever you do: don't get it wet! It will stick to high heaven. Don't bathe if neccessary, you'll still smell better than a wet cast!
Date: 12/30/2003 1:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 45397    I dislocated my right elbow when I was younger, I know how you feel it just takes practice using your left hand to do things that normally you'd have no trouble doing, I was still able to ride my bike with it. so it wasn't all that bad it was a good learning experience.
