Hey everyone! For the past several months, I've been taking a sleeping pill called Ambien. Well, I became extremely addicted to it. I realized how addicted I am, so I tried to get off of it. The problem is, I can't sleep without it. I'll be sitting up at all hours of the night thinking about how bad I want to take an Ambien. Any suggestions on how I can get over this addiction???

Date: 12/29/2003 9:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 19625    Do it like a script, lower the dosegas, but go slowly. Like they both said, you have to ween yourself off of it. Erin-

Date: 12/29/2003 10:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    yes hun, like everyone says, break the habit gradually, cut the dosage in half for a while, then quarters and so on, your body will get used to being without it...good luck hun....hugs
Date: 12/29/2003 11:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 62104    I have no experience from this but I believe you are obviously suffering withdrawls from not taking it. I'm not saying for you to go and take one because It's very good of you to recongnise you have a problem and the best thing you've done is to stop taking it, but you'r body just needs time to re-adjust. Maybe you should go and see the doctor for some advise on how to regain your sleep. Why is the reason you started taking it in the first place? Were you suffering from insomnia? If so then you deffinetly need further help. Try to avoid all caffine before bed and maybe take a bath or drink a glass of milk before you try and go to sleep. (My grandmother has always done that and I guess it works)
Date: 12/30/2003 10:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 13729    Quit cold turkey......You will eventually be able to sleep again......
Date: 12/30/2003 10:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 62146    I use to be only able to sleep if I had a sleeping pill and pills to wake me up. I guess you have to do stuff in the day like physicle stuff like running or just go for long walks or something. Also when your trying to sleep don't stay up all night thinking I better get to sleep soon relax and just jentaly drift off to sleep. Try doing stuff in the day to get to sleep before you go see aq doctor.
Date: 12/30/2003 10:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 28946    I agree with Ritzbe. Try to keep busy and not think about the pill and hopefully, eventually you will be able to sleep without help.
Date: 12/30/2003 1:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 5252    cut the pills in half, until eventually you stop takeing it, just take smaller amounts each time, it will take dedication but you can do it!
Date: 12/30/2003 5:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 40979    I have no advice :-( I too have problems getting to sleep . It takes about two hours to fall asleep and I can be woke up easily . I have never taken any thing to help me because my mom will not let me take sleeping pills . Most nights I just read until I get extreamly tired or write until I am half asleep . I don't get much sleep because I stay up until midnight trying to wear down and get tired .
Date: 1/1/2004 10:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 16845    Iiiiiick been there done that hun!...*though it wasn't that med it was still a sleep aid* I quit cold turkey but that was hard...if possible I'd break the dosage down like others suggested.
