USM Spell Check

I think USM should have a spell check that, after the 3rd spelling error on a post, it whacks your account for a day. Then people would either proof read, or not post.

As opposed to: I tink uSm shuld hava spel ceckr thet, affer da tird speling erorr ona pose, it whaks you're aconnt fer a day. Den peeple wuld eether pruf reed, or knot pose.

I do know of an internet spell checker, if anyone is interested. It only works on stuff that you are currently typing though.

Date: 12/28/2003 2:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 58078    I dont' think it should whack your account but spell check does sound good.
Date: 12/28/2003 2:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 58334    here here! i always mess up when i type and never notice
Date: 12/28/2003 2:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 60395    lol
Date: 12/28/2003 2:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    You sure you want that? The way you have been spelling lately..You'd be gone in two minutes!
Date: 12/28/2003 2:39:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12133    the account whack is to make SURE people at least attempt to check their spelling
Date: 12/28/2003 2:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 57079    The only problem with that is that the post rate would probably go way down and it would be even less than there is now. So, thats a good idea but maby a little less harsh.
Date: 12/28/2003 2:40:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12133    As long as its consistant, Pyro
Date: 12/28/2003 2:40:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12133    errr.Pyriel..sorry
Date: 12/28/2003 2:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 32133    put in site suggestions
Date: 12/28/2003 2:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    It wouldn't be too hard to make happen either. Because there is already a program that automatically kicks you off here if you say certain words.
Date: 12/28/2003 2:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 58809    Heh...sounds like a good idea to me.

Date: 12/28/2003 2:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 56293    How did I know that this post had to be from Crash?! LOL
Date: 12/28/2003 2:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 32133    if u have more than 5 errors or sumthin in your post u should get a warning message from an admin telling you to fix it............also would it be for chat and comments too or just posts?
Date: 12/28/2003 2:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 6860    This sounds a bit harsh, but I do think a spell check is a wonderful and much needed resource.
Date: 12/28/2003 2:55:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12133    I don't WANT it in site suggestions, Systym. 1. People can't comment on it there, and 2. Its been suggested many times over.
Date: 12/28/2003 3:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 22433    I agree!!
Date: 12/28/2003 3:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 32133    sorry crash.................didnt no
Date: 12/28/2003 3:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 10030    I agree with you, Crash. I think it's ridiculous the crap that goes up. --Y do peeps typ lyk dis? Its stoopid.-- It only makes them look silly. And good if the number of posts goes down: Quality, not quantity. *rants* In addition, I'm all for a word minimum. *grins* Perhaps that's a bit harsh.
Date: 12/28/2003 3:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 10030    On a note, I should mention that I don't only refer to USM when I say "crap that goes up"-- I mean many message boards, and USM is the best of them, usually.
Date: 12/28/2003 3:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 25756    Lol! How about just having a spell checker after you've written your post. There are probably some people who aren't as literate who might have trouble spelling and that might prevent them from posting. But some people just need to stop being lazy! Lol!
Date: 12/28/2003 3:14:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12133    I WAS going to suggest that a moderate shock be transmitted through the keyboard, but I don't think Radman can pull that off
Date: 12/28/2003 3:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 10030    *does the "I think everyone should type up thier posts in a Word Processor and run a spell/grammar check before copying them to the text box and submitting them, because they should take pride in thier posts" dance*
Date: 12/28/2003 3:22:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12133    Umm..Holli "their" is spelled T H E I R (Sorry, had to)
Date: 12/28/2003 3:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 61811    I think there should be a spell checker too, and it auto-corrects, and if it doesnt know what your trying to say, then it wont post until you fix it because sometimes you will go,"I wnet to the store becasue I needed smoe etggs." or something like that.
Date: 12/28/2003 3:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 10030    *laughs* Thanks Crash.
Date: 12/28/2003 3:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 43608    lolz iz r funE wen pplz r no speil gud hehdheheheehehhezzzzzz!11!1!!!11!1 u r rite plz plz plz spel chk n 3 dae wakz!!@2@!@!122

Sorry, I couldnt resist. But yes, Spell Check would be a good thing.

Date: 12/28/2003 3:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    NO!!! what about the different spelling from us over here in Australia compared to over in the states....have you thought about that before this suggestion Crash lol!!!!!...
Date: 12/28/2003 3:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 32133    hey crash why dont you become a spell check machine.........then u could probly pull off the shock simmulater.
Date: 12/28/2003 3:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12133    Zema, I can understand things like "colour" instead of "color" but look at some of the posts on this site "bord" instead of "board", "decession" instead if "decision", stuff like that. Not cultural differences.
Date: 12/28/2003 4:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 60685    LOL, those drive me crazy, a little spelling mistake here and there isn't much but to do it on purpose, that's just sad.
Date: 12/28/2003 6:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 53961    I vote for spell check but not for punishment. If it's not readable, I skip it and go on. When I write a story, most times I will put it in Word first then copy and paste after spellchecking.
Date: 12/28/2003 6:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 52155    *Stands and applauds* I luv it! x-cellent idear!
Date: 12/28/2003 7:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 55337    good idea. but the bad thing would be if you "accidentially" made 3 mistakes then you wouldn't be able to go on USM that day. PLUS, there's some people who can't spell some words right.
Date: 12/28/2003 7:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 36850    are you trying to impose rules and regulations on my freedom to spell incorrectly? What about people that do it intentionally just to annoy others? Do you think it's ok just to take away THERE fun? moonshine3
Date: 12/28/2003 8:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 57232    It wouldn't work, great idea too. 2 hard 4 ppl 2 undrsnd.....that slipped out. Too hard for people to understand. But for natural errors, we've all made them, then it would be nice to have a spell check. Whenever I turn in a paper, the most common error for me is the almighty double (that looks strange doesn't it, is that even spelled right, double..) the...bad example I walked to the the store today. Oh well nice suggestion though.
Date: 12/28/2003 8:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 43608    "are you trying to impose rules and regulations on my freedom to spell incorrectly?"

You sure do a good job of it! =)

Date: 12/28/2003 8:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 54987    I'd like to see a usm sense checker
Date: 12/28/2003 8:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 36704    that would kick off 95% of the members Koolade
Date: 12/28/2003 8:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 51049    There might not be that many people still here in any given day, I think everyone makes spelling errors, which are more often typing errors. Spell check would not be a bad idea though, spelling errors are sometimes the thing that sticks out the most in a post.
Date: 12/28/2003 8:57:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12133    I'm not referring to the occasional error or two, we've ALL made them. I'm talking about people who can't spell things that they should be able to spell, without a problem.
Date: 12/28/2003 9:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 11341    It only works on stuuf tha you are currently typing though. You missed being kicked off by one error :P. I would LOVE a USM spell check!
Date: 12/28/2003 9:30:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12133    I don't know WHAT you are referring to, DMK

Date: 12/28/2003 10:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    My days would be numbered! My fingers fly faster than my "internal spellchecker". At work I do have to be precise, and I suppose that should carry over, but I tend to be more relaxed here and hope the point comes through. Excuses of course.
Date: 12/29/2003 3:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 62273    O_o I think you started a fad here LOL. .
Date: 12/31/2003 8:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 10030    A girl posted these at another message board I visit: http://spellcheck.freeurl.com/ | http://www.spellcheck.net/ | http://www.iespell.com/
