1861:"Elizabeth!" Edward yelled for his daughter. Elizabeth heard the call and started running for her house with her long strawberry blonde hair bouncing in the wind. "Coming daddy!" she yelled back. When she reached the house her father gave her some sacks that were full of bread and other foods. "Here give this to the slaves and give this letter to jack ok? Remember only jack cause he's the only one who can read". Elizabeth nodded her head and headed for the cabin behind their house. After that was done she headed into town. "Daddy I'm going to town for a bit do you need anything?". There was no reply. "Daddy?". Elizabeth walked cautiously into the living room and her dad was sitting on the couch crying. "Daddy whats wrong?" she asked. Her dad looked up at her with his hopeful eyes. "Honey a wars broken out between the north and the south. Since we're in Georgia we have to support the south you understand? Now I know your only 15 but you'll be a big part of this war as every other woman in town". "I understand daddy. When did the war start?" she asked. "Just yesterday. All the men in town have been waiting for it. They knew it was coming. I guess I did too. I might have to fight in it darling". Elizabeth gasped and hugged her dad tight. "Daddy you can't! Your a man of god! They wont let ministers fight in a war would they?!". Edward smiled at his daughter's naiveness. "Oh my sweet liz. You wouldn't believe what they would make a person do. Especially a middle-aged, healthy man like me". "You go into town and I want you to tell Mrs. Mulligan that you might have to stay with her if I have to go and fight. I know how you fancy Lucas and Mrs. Mulligan already told me that she would take care of you if she would ever have to". "Daddy! Lucas is my best friend I don't think of him that way!". "Ok darling I'm sorry but can you still do that for me?". Liz nodded her head. Liz headed into town with a heavy heart. She did indeed love Lucas but wouldn't say anything. Just then a thought hit her. 'Oh no! What if he has to go and fight too!'. Liz just pushed those thoughts out of her head as she headed to Mrs. Mulligan's house. Little did she know that her own war was starting.
