The time passed as they fled from the guards. They had no where to hide without being caught. The wolf had already disappeared into the night mystically. Irani was proud of herself for helping the beautiful animal but John was still in fright. Irani was tiring but kept a good pace. Even though John had just fed, he was loosing energy quickly. They fled down another dark and narrow street hoping to loose the guards but their attemp failed and they were still being chased.
Then the street ended and they came to a large stream, and across from it...an open feild. John gave it no thought and crossed quickly, Irani followed with hesitation. The guards were catching up to them. Soon John and Irani were in the middle of the field and still running but the guards caught up. One tackled John to the ground and 2 others grabbed Irani bringing her to a jolting stop. Another guard help his friend lift John to his feet and keep him contained. Irani looked at John apologetically. John just gave her a sympathetic smile.
After the many years of searching for her, this is how John was to spend his time. Now they'd been locked in seperate cells in a castle dungeon. He could hear her breathing, suspecting that she was trying not to cry. He looked out the small window into the night wishing he was free. Now he was a gaged animal. Then he heard movement from the end of the dungeon hall. Shrugging it off he just thought it was one of the guards pacing the end of the hall. John could understand why. The cell he was in was cold and damp. He could hear water dripping somewhere and it smelled of mildew. Sickening, he thought. Then he heard Irani shuffle.
John: "Irani?"
Irani: "I'm sorry John. I shouldn't have put us here."
John: "It's okay. You did what you had to. I understand and I don't hold a grudge."
Irani: "The sun will be coming soon..."
John blinked and remembered. She'd only been around at night before she disappeared.
Irani: "They'll hold trial outside...."
John took a deep shuddering breathe realizing what she was leading to. He closed his eyes in an attempt to fight back tears. He'd just found her...now he was going to loose her again. Fate couldn't possibly be this cruel to him.
John: "I understand. So what do we do?"
He heard Irani sigh and shuffle closer to the stone wall so she could speak softly enough for him to still hear.
Irani: "Well we can't escape and stay out of the light. We do have small windows in our cells that will let light in..."
She cut herself off. John's eyes widened at what she wanted to do. He shook his head.
John: "No I'd rather die seeing you, my love. Even if I had just barely found you. I don't want to die without you now."
Irani tried not to sob aloud.
John: "Irani, we'll just have to face trial."
Irani: "We won't make it all the way to the scaffold."
John nodded to himself and closed his eyes.
John: "I know but we'll be with each other."
Now Irani couldn't help it and began to weep as quietly as she could.
Then they heard the creek of the main cell door opening that sent shivers down both of their spines. The jailor's keys clanked as he approached John's cell door.
Jailor: "Get up."
John obeyed not wanting conflict as the jailor opened the door and led him out then shackled his hands together. They did the same to Irani. John managed to glance back. She was as filthy as him but he thought she still looked amazingly beautiful as ever.
They were led down the dungeon hall in silence as the sun peeked over the horizon.
