A while later John was having his hunger come back. It was like a non stop cycle only cured by that life giving liquid. But in order to get life he had to take it. Irani was sensing this and looked at him concerned for a moment.
John: "Just a bit hungry is all, don't worry."
Irani smiled slightly. And looked out the window. It couldn't be later than three in the morning. Just enough time to grab something.
Irani: "Okay we still have time. Lets go."
John: "Are you sure? I can wait."
Irani: "Love, you need your strength and that's the only way to get it."
John: "I guess your right, you know better than I do!"
They both chuckled softly and slipped out of her apartment and the old building silently. They creeped through the alleyways like shadows, cautiously making no sound or sudden movements that will have them caught by a night patrolling guard. Then a scent caugh John's nose that almost made him leap to a feast but Irani was fast and kept him back.
Irani: "Injured animal. It will help cure the hunger but won't provide much strength."
John was practically drooling all over the place and his eyes were fierce and animal like. It made Irani shudder.
John: "I want it!"
Irani: "Be patient my love!! Be silent! Guard!"
Sure enough the footsteps came with a loud clatter because of the street's cobblestones. Closer and closer the sound grew.
Guard: "I found it! Over here!"
More footsteps approached quickly and the light from the torches lit up the small street so Irani and John were forced behind a large cart. They watched anxiously as the light shone on a wounded grey wolf. It was beautiful, but barely alive. It made Irani's heart squeeze and she fought back the tears. She noticed John had calmed down a bit and was now quiet. They guards grabbed the dieing wolf and hauled it onto the back of a horse. Apparently the wolf was heavier than it appeared or the guards were just too lazy to carry it. Irani and John stayed quiet and Irani managed to hear a part of the conversation between the guards.
Guard 1: "Tough bugger isn't he. Heavy too."
Guard 2: "Yeah, I bet he's gonna make a good fur coat!"
Guard 1: "A good bounty for this dog, you bet he would!"
The guards laughed and walked off behind the horse that was carrying to wolf. Irani had always loved wolves. When she first fled she lived in woods and ran with the wolves at night, playing rambunciously with then, howling with them. It was always fun and they had considered her family. So now she was in a complete rage. Before John could blink she was gone.
John: "Irani? Irani, love?"
He looked around for her but couldn't see her. It suprised him that she could move so swiftly. Then he heard a man's yell and whistles. Oh Irani what have you done, John thought and dashed off in the direction the guards had went.
