Stuttering Bill--A poem inspired by Stephen King's IT

Stuttering Bill

His boat started it all, he thinks,
“Why’d I let him die?”
As the moon comes up and the sun sinks,
“Is Georgie in the sky?”

He’d set out in the rain with Bill’s boat,
It danced in the water and mud,
At the end of the day they found his coat,
That was splattered with his blood.

“The clown, the clown, he killed him, not me,”
Says the voices in his head,
He feels with a sad intensity,
“My fault, my fault, he’s dead.”

He could only clearly say four words:
“Hi-yo Silver away!”
But though he stuttered they all heard,
What he’d been trying to say.

Eddie thinks he’s a hero,
With brains and strength and heart,
And that Bill does not know,
He was one from the start.

Ben thinks he’s a great guy,
Who’s helped him through the worst,
Bill shakes his head and heaves a sigh,
“Henry Bowers wasn’t the first.”

Bev thinks he’s wonderful and great
Smart, brave, and true,
The ones who make fun of him she does hate,
“If him you only knew.”

Richie knows he’s special in some way,
“Good man, that Denbrough is.”
He looked through those pictures that day,
Changing minds, including his.

Stan knows what Bill conveys,
“Honesty is the best.”
Stan’s private truth Bill sways,
Putting logic to the test.

Mike knows how Bill saved them,
From a lonely, lonely life,
Of friendship’s fabric he was the hem,
And made them all think twice.

“Stuttering” Bill Denbrough saved them all,
From almost certain death,
“It was nuh-nothing,” He’d call,
with one surely modest breath.

Date: 12/24/2003 5:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    This is a nice tribute to the Stephen King! He is one of my favorite horror authors and I just finished another of his last week. I do know one thing though, I will NEVER go to Derry. LOL. I think you did a terrific job with this poem and you might even want to send it to The Man himself. Merry Christmas.
Date: 12/24/2003 8:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 57232    I LOVE this! I think that IT is my favorite movie adaption. I loved how they filmed it first with an intro to each character in their present life and then to that character's past. It's been an ominous (sp?) year for the cast, with the loss of the adult Ben (John Ritter) and the young Bill (Jonathan Brandis) this year. Thanks for the poem. Makes me want to read IT again, for what will probably be my 4th time.
Date: 12/25/2003 4:50:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51285    Thanks for the good response guys. Penny- thank goodness Derry isn't real, but King based Derry on Bangor, Maine, which is real...won't be going THERE anytime soon. BMonkey- LoL the next time i read IT will be my fourth too, I got a copy for Xmas, so maybe I will. I think this should also be a tribute to the two actors, they both were really excellent in the movie, it's such a shame. Thanks for the replies! --GG--
