It's unfortunate, but what can you do. It's best to acknowledge the fact that some people are set in their ways (like old grannies), but it's still prejiduce. If you feel offended that somebody says something discriminant towards another religion, speak out.  |

People should also remember that they are always representing their particular religion, race or other group and not to BEHAVE like the stereotype which would add fuel to the fire of some people's conceptions.  |

By the way, why would you be afraid of a particular person because of their religion? Okaay.. I just find it funny because I'm really not afraid of anyone.. lol ESPECIALLY if they are just harmless people with an "unorthodox" religion. |

Well. I am a Christian. But I aint saying other religions are wrong. Because I think there only is one God that will judge. I do believe in Jesus, but then again, who is to say that the other religion leaders didnt exist? Good post. Its very true what you claim.  |

Religious stereotypes can indeed be hurtful & wrong. I remember one time a new USM'er wrote a post about a problem they were having. A crises of faith, if you will. I replied in an "Author Only" and offered encouragement. I received a sharp reply saying "I know about you, you are a Witch! Why would you help a Christian?". I felt really bad. First of all, this person was very, very new based on their account number. So that means an established USM'er must have said something to this person. Also, my personal dogma does not mean I do not have something helpful to offer, even if it is simply encouragement, you know? Good post CQK......I hope people read & think about this.  |

LSG I know exactly what you mean. There are some forums I found recently that are mostly music related but they have a spiritual/religion section as well. The people who frequent it are mostly jews and christians and when I made some post (after stating my faith) about how I think all religions are right, and I was sorry about any discrimination they had faced (I had a post on it) they seemed real surprised... |

We have seen a lot of mis-information about Athiests here at USM in the past. Fortunately a few vocal Athiests were willing to weather the abuse slung their way & show others what caring, loyal, and utterly moral people they are. But, it would be stereotyping to say that ALL Christians were abusive to these USM'ers, or that ALL Christians approved of the abuse. Labeling & stereotyping is wrong no matter who does it. Not all of any one group are good people. Not all of any one group are bad. See my point? |

Kaja, you and I both know people such as this only mouth off this garbage because they are IGNORANT. They are set in their ways and have no desire to find out or research the other persons religion, they would rather let some book or religious figure do the thinking for them and tell them how they are suppose to feel on the subject. On another note, I noticed that when a post such as this is posted, I very VERY rarely see those on USM who behave this way show up and reply....I wonder.  |
