Bare feet
Padding against the wood floor.
A pair of shorts,
Too short,
And a shirt three sizes too big.
A freckled shoulder peaks
Out from the stretched collar.
Her bra-strap is pink.
She’s sure of herself.
The music beats
And she falls into
A triple pirouette.
She falls onto the hardwood.
A laugh, she gets up
Blushing.
Again, leap! Pirouette!
She spins, and the ribbons
In her hair fly out
Like butterflies.
