One day I was alone in my room when I heard the phone ringing. I ran in to answer it. When I did I was surprised by the sound of a beautiful voice from a young lady asking for me. I looked at a clock on the wall as she started speaking. It was 2:30pm. "Hello is Yuusou there?" asked the voice. "Speaking, and who might this be?" I replied. "Let's just say that I'm the one you are in love with," she said, "yet we have never met." I realized that the only person it could be, who knew that I was in love with someone I had never met, was... "Oh. Hello Kairi, when did you come to my town?" I asked quickly. "Around five minutes ago. I wanted to surprise you by showing up at your front door. Then I realized I didn't know where you lived."
"Where are you now?" I asked. "The airport's main terminal." "Okay, I'll be there in around ten minutes. Would you like to go somewhere for dinner?"
"Yes that would be just great. Can we go to this little restaurant called," she replied quickly, "Jade dragon?" "Sure. We can eat for free there," I replied with surprise. "Why?" she inquired. "It is the restaurant I opened after I graduated from culinary school," I answered, blushing red though she couldn't see. "Cool. Well, I'll see you when you come to get me." "Ok, love you." I replied. "Love you, too," Kairi responded. When we hung up I hurried to get into the shower. Then I got out and got dressed quickly in a white shirt and khaki pants. I called my restaurant to make reservations for later that evening. They were surprised but pleased; I had never brought a g1rl "home" before. After calling I ran into the garage and got in my green Shelby gt 500 with a white dragon stretching from the hood to the trunk. I got in and started the car. I was on my way to the airport when I stopped to get a dozen roses for her. When I got to the airport I nearly jumped up in eagerness of finally meeting her. I found Kairi sitting in the main terminal just where she said she had been. When she saw me she didn't recognize me. I walked up and said hello. And then handed her the roses I had bought a few minutes ago. "Oh." She looked up. "Sorry Yuusou, I didn't recognize you. You look like you lost weight since you sent me that picture of you five years ago. Your hair looks different also." "Well I did lose weight and I dyed and grew my hair out differently. I'm also a little taller. You, on the other hand, have just grown more beautiful. Your picture seriously didn't do you justice if you looked like this when you sent me that picture. Your eyes are far more beautiful then they seemed and your hair also." She had her hair down and it went to just below her shoulders, and her beautiful hazel eyes seem to be into my mind as if she was reading my mind. She was wearing a tight green shirt that stop just above her stomach that was very thin and a short green skirt that stop just above the knee. I thought that she must have remembered that green was my favorite color since I was in the third grade. I had also noticed a ring that had been placed on her middle finger. It had taken me a few seconds to realize that it was the same ring I had sent her. I had planned it to be her engagement ring but I could not propose to her over the Internet or the phone. I was going to wait until our date to the fan-anime convention in California to ask her but decided that I would do I before we ate. We went to eat at the Jade Dragon and I set it up so that we could see the sunset over the lake that was just visible trough a window. So when I saw that she was getting restless in her chair I got up and then took the hand that held the ring in my hands and asked, "Do you know why I sent this ring to you a year ago?"
"No I really don't, now that you mention it. I had never thought about it." I then proceeded to say what was on my mind and from my heart. "Okay then I will tell you. You know that I love you and I believe that you love me. Even though this is technically our first date I have something to ask you. Will you marry me?" "Oh my, I'm sorry." My special Kairi looked mortified.
"But I can't answer that right now; I have some things that I need to work out before I'll be able to answer any questions that will further our relationship."
"That's all right; I just wasn't expecting that answer. What, if you don't mind my asking, do you have that is so important that you can't answer yes or no?"
"Again, I'm sorry I just can't tell you." "And again that is all right." I guess I'll just have to find out some other way, I thought to myself.
After eating dinner we barely talking as we entered my car to head back to my house. When we pulled into the garage she asked, "Where will I be sleeping, is there a guest bedroom in your house?" "No there is no guest bedroom, you will be sleeping in my bed--"
"Are we going to sleep together?"
"No, we are not. As I said, you're sleeping in my bedroom and I'm sleeping on the living room couch."
"I don't want to be an inconvenience." "Don't worry about it; you're not. I used to sleep on the couch at my parents house." "Isn't that uncomfortable?"
"No, it isn't if you have the right couch." "Okay, as long as I'm not causing you any discomfort."
We got out of the car and headed up the stairs to my house. When we got inside I showed her where my room was and all around my home. "If you need anything, I'll be right here." I said as I got on to the couch made into a bed.
I awoke with a start from someone saying my name. When I had opened my eyes I saw Kairi sitting on the edge of the couch gently shaking me and saying my name. "Yuusou. I have a question that is keeping me awake. I'm sorry I couldn't have just waited until morning."
I looked at my alarm clock and saw that it was 2:00am. Almost 12 hours since we had come in contact. "That's all right," I said as I sat up so she could get a better seat, "What is the question and don't worry, it's fine that you woke me if you couldn't sleep."
"Well I guess I was wondering ever since you asked me to marry you at the Jade Dragon. Why do you love me?"
"That is an easy question to answer I love you because you are the only person to ever show me kindness enough to date me and to show me your personality without really knowing me." "But how did you know I was who I said was?"
"I didn't. I guess I trusted that if you where someone different then you would tell me. And I guess I didn't care just as long as you didn't turn out to be in your 40s and a man. Which I can tell you're not by the way you act and how you are always just really full of emotions."
I reached up and brushed her short beautiful hair out of in front of her eyes that seemed to capture her emotion and release mine. I pulled her toward me and gave her a kiss on the cheek that was full of passion. Her eyes flashed in the light from the moon out the window just behind me. I was just able to make out the love in her eyes as she blushed and our eyes met. There we sat for a few minutes just gazing into each other's eyes. She was showing her emotions only to me through her captivatingly gorgeous eyes. "Maybe you should get some sleep," I said at last.
As she turned to leave she flashed one last emotion it was so surprising to see this one from her. It was worry. This seemed to make me fall into an uneasy sleep when I fell back into it.
I woke with a start again from the sound of my alarm clock going off. I got up and went to take a shower before heading off to work. After the shower I got dressed in my chef's uniform and went to wake Kairi up. When I entered the room I saw she seemed far more beautiful as she slept. I figured that she might like to go to work with me then head out to the mall or shopping.
"Kairi, wake up," I said as I gently slid her hair out of her face. "Would you like to go to work with me then go shopping or something? Or would you rather stay here and get some more sleep then meet me the mall for lunch?" "Give me a few minutes and I'll be ready to go with you," she answered with a yawn "I think I might also go to the mall today," she added, smiling.
"Okay I'll be in the kitchen if you want me." I told her, then added, "You'll need to be back at the restaurant at around 4:00pm or if you'd like to go out with me for lunch then around noon. Okay?"
"I'll be back at about 12:00 to 1:00."
She got dressed and was ready by the time I had my tea made and had had the first cup. We headed down to my car and got in. We drove to my restaurant which was about an hour's drive away. She stayed at the restaurant for an hour after I opened it and then she left.
I went back to the kitchen and started making our morning special and the orders that had to cool before eating. After the early morning breakfast rush was over, I entered my office and stated thinking why she couldn't answer me.
She knew I loved her and I believed she loved me. I decided that I might be able to find something out on the Internet, so I took my laptop out of my desk and started searching the Net for any information on her. I finally found her birth certificate (which wasn't really anything I was interested in finding) and then I found her address from when she lived in California.
I figured that maybe her parents might know what is worrying her so I looked for her old phone number. I found it and called her parents. They didn't answer until they heard their daughter's name mentioned. "Hello, where is Kairi now?" her father asked.
"She would be at the mall about now, I think, or on the way back here. Why? Do you not where she had went?"
"Well she left so suddenly. She had been saying something about going to live with her boyfriend in West Virginia. She called us from the airport and said that she was all right and would call us when she got to West Virginia but we haven't heard from her for a few days."
"She is fine and will be staying with me until she is ready to go back. I am sorry she hasn't called you that she made it safely here."
"What is your name and what do you do for a living?" asked her mother on the other line.
"My name is Yuusou Ekimora," I said rather proudly, "and I am the owner and head chef of the "Jade Dragon" restaurant."
"What kind of name is "Yuusou Ekimora"? It sounds like it is a different language," said her father in a surprised voice.
"It is a different language. It's Japanese." I said, then added, "I am half Japanese." "It just sounded weird the first time we heard it," they both replied.
"Do you by any chance know what might make Kairi worry a lot?" I asked. "She seems to be very worried about something but won't tell me." "I'm sorry but I have no idea what it might be not if she loves you as much as she says," her father replied.
"Okay, thank you. I'll just have to ask her again. No need to worry about her I can take care of her. Good-bye."
"Good-bye."
I leaned back in my chair and stretched. "I wonder why she left California to live with me?" I thought aloud. Just as I finished that sentence there was a knock on my door. I got up and opened it to see whom it was who knocked. "Kairi?" I said surprised.
"Are you ready for a break?" she asked as I gestured for her to enter the office and sit down. "I have to talk to you."
"Okay. First let me ask you something." I replied as she sat in the seat at my desk, "What are you worried about?"
"That is what I need to talk to you about." She took a long slow breath and said, "Okay. First I just heard you talking to my parents. They have no clue that I'm even worried about something or the reason I came here. The reason I can't get engaged to you yet is because you don't know the real me and I'm afraid that if I show you that side you won't like me anymore." She stopped to take a breath.
"You can not know how I'd feel about this side of you if you never show it. Now can I?" I said.
"If I show you the real me then you wouldn't like me any more and I--" Just then there was a knock on the door and I opened it to see what the person wanted. It was Scott, my second best chef. He didn't say anything. He was just standing there amazed at the beauty sitting in my chair. I smiled to myself.
"What is so important Scott?" I asked so I could get his attention.
"There is an order none of the chefs know how to make and that we have never made. So I thought that since you made the menu that you had made it once and might remember." He said, never taking his eyes off of her. Kairi paid no attention and instead, studied her hands.
I took the slip of paper that had been in his hand but he didn't turn to leave. "Is there something else you wanted?" I asked him impatiently.
"Yes. What is her name, number, and where she lives?"
"Well, that's an easy one. Let's see," I began sarcastically, "Her name is Kairi, her number is the same as mine, and she lives with me. If I ever catch you eyeing my friend again you'll be fired. Got that?"
"Yes." He said as he turned and I notice he had an expression of surprise and jealousy. "But I have one more thing to say before I go back to work. You are one of the luckiest men I know."
"He's right, you know. I am one of the luckiest men in the world since I fell in love with you and you became my friend and I hope you will be my fiancée soon." I told her. "Now what were you saying?"
"I was saying, I never want that to happen but I will let you in on why I am worried. I'm afraid of losing the people I love."
"Why do you think you will lose the ones you love?"
"I don't really know. I just feel that I will lose you soon."
"You will never lose me. I will always love you and will always be by your side," I said. After a thought I said, "I hope that you will always return my love. I believe that you will. But I hoped that since I believed this that maybe if I asked you, you would answer the one answer that I was waiting for ever since I fell in love with you."
"I know that you love me and I do love you but I can't chance that if I showed you my true self then you would me or I would break your heart."
