Date: 12/20/2003 4:41:00 PM From Authorid: 37101 In Khufu's pyramid there are approximately two and a half million blocks, some weighing one hundred fifty tons; the average weight of the blocks is two and a half tons. They cover a million square feet, and rise 481 feet into the air. The mass is solid. Only a few blocks are omitted, to leave a secret passageway to the king's carcass. - Yeah, I cheated. - |

December 06, 2002 Recounting the blocks in Khufu's pyramid A new study concludes that the Great Pyramid at Giza was constructed of "only" one million stone blocks, not 2.3 million as commonly believed. Zahi Hawass, secretary general of the Supreme Council, said that the Great Pyramid was considered to be a national project that all Egyptians took part in, according to an Egyptian State Information Service report last week. The report also mentioned that Hawass and his team analyzed the administrative organization and work scheme used in the construction of the 450-foot tall monument. |
Date: 12/20/2003 6:03:00 PM From Authorid: 61894 Stereotypical? Right. OUr guide, when i was there a few years ago, knew more than any magazine archaeologist i've ever read. He showed us things that peple don't write about in articals, and with visual proof, contradicted what known archaeologists have said about ancient egypt. But i have only been to egypt once, so maybe i could be wrong. - CanuckBeast |
Date: 12/20/2003 6:09:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 58334 You said never trust Egyptians. Now your saying not to trust archaeologist. Well which is it then? Just because one or two people may not know something doesn't mean the whole lot will. That is what I call sterotypical |
Date: 12/20/2003 6:13:00 PM From Authorid: 58078 The pyramid contains around 2,300,000 individual blocks of stones each weighing over 2.5 tons on the average, with some weighing over 16 tons and the granite roof slabs of Khufu's burial chamber weigh over 50 tons. |
Date: 12/20/2003 6:23:00 PM From Authorid: 61894 Our guide wasn't egyptian. Well..maybe 1/2 egyptian...raised in England, and came back to Egypot to teach, ANYWAY. Egyptians overall i was told, and saw, that you can't trust what they say about their own history. They will only say what people want to hear, not to change outsiders of their conventional concept of egyptian history. And NEVER trust Egyptian cab drivers! - CanuckBeast |

Size and Description The true pyramid exists only in Egypt, though the term has also been applied to similar structures in other countries. The Great Pyramid stands 480 feet tall with a base of 750 feet in each direction forming a square at the bottom. The pyramid contains around 2,300,000 individual blocks of stones each weighing over 2.5 tons on the average, with some weighing over 16 tons and the granite roof slabs of Khufu's burial chamber weigh over 50 tons. The stones form a giant staircase with each step being waist high. The foundation below the pyramid is solid rock. Today the city of Cairo is extended out very close to the pyramids but in ancient times it stood out in the desert. Originally the stones were incased in brilliant white polished limestone which gave it a glittering appearance so much so that one Greek historian named Diodorus Siculus who lived during the 1st century. http://www.bible-history.com/resource/ff_giza.htm |
