Is that a drill team in JROTC, or a drill team with flags and batons...<RegretfulHalo> |

^^ That was going to be my question. I spent two years in JROTC in high school, both years worked on Color Guard, Rifle Team, and the Men's Drill Team ( where we did armed and unarmed drills, both exhibition and standard ). |

I tried out for drill team in high school (didn't make it though) - but I remember that at the beginning of try outs they show you the drill and you have several weeks to practice and get it down. You'll probably have to do the splits, which is the only thing you can practice now - it being a year off and you don't know what drill they'll have you do. Maybe you could get someone who is currently on drill team to show you some moves that you could practice. The key is precision head and arm movements while marching. If you can find a routine - then practice, practice, practice until your flawless. Hope that helps. Scall |

Yeah, If it's JROTC, the standard drill is a cake walk, exhibition is a trifle harder and a drill team with flags and stuff is a bit harder than that. You ever twirled an M16 one handed while doing a left oblique move? It's not too easy but I enjoyed it when I was a member of ROTC...<RegretfulHalo> |

True, the only thing people ever had a problem with concerning un-armed standard was count and posture ( most of the time we were re-hashing uniform policies ). |

If you're doing drill without arms then when they say which turn to do, squeeze that hand so you know definitely which way to go.. Let's just hope you know your left from your right lol. Umm make sure you snap your body cuz that looks awesome(which is how I ended up on the team). DOn't forget to admit that you made mistakes though. Some people get to cocky and they do so many things wrong without owning up to it. Well that's about the best I Can do. Good luck. |
