What about ghosts? I've read tales about people who move into houses haunted by ghosts...and these ghosts need help in finding or resolving what they couldn't in their former life. I guess it would almost be like a possession, but it isn't really, because nothing bad happens. I read something similiar to it when I was a little girl. It was a book called "Yesterday's Doll" I don't remember the authors name. A little girl went to live with her grandma while recover from I think scarlet fever, and was given the doll to play with, but the doll had been in the family for generations. When the girl would fall asleep holding the doll, she would be transported back in time, and she would be with another family, as the doll's original owner (who incidentally, had died from complications of scarlet fever as well). Each time she fell asleep, she sank deeper into the world...as though the doll were dragging her in to solve a mystery. I've heard of other such stories, where items belonging to the decesased, or the spirits of the deceased will inhabit the living, and what the living think are dreams, are really memories of the living, which will sometimes lead to clues to solve murders, kidnappings, etc. I can't think of the technical term for this, and I know there is one. If you saw the movie What Lies Beneath, with Michelle Pfeiffer, whenever she held the braid of the missing girl, she sort of became 'possessed' by the girls spirit. Its definitely an intriguing topic. Hope that helps. Good luck with your project, no matter what you choose. --Christine |
