A Perfect Life

Some think that what I had
was the so-called "perfect" life.
Even though it wasn't true
I was glad that's what they thought.
From what they thought they saw
I had everything I could ever want.
All the cute, little clothes
And best friends with all
The smartest, prettiest girls,
Great parents who loved me,
And sweet, innocent siblings,
Who had perfect lives as well.
The truth is, I was alone,
By myself, with no one ever there.
My "perfect" parents working
I hardly ever saw them.
My brothers always fighting
Throwing eachother against the walls.
Screaming at eachother
Over nothing at all.
And my sisters, always gone
Trying to have their own
so-called "perfect" lives
With their perfect boyfriends,
perfect clothes, perfect smiles,
And perfect grades, I was forgotten
I guess I wasn't meant
To be part of their lives.
And my best friends,
If that's even what you call them,
Weren't true or honest.
Always talking behind my back,
And ignoring me when I was there.
I wasn't "perfect" enough for them.

Then finally something happened,
Don't know if it was good or bad,
But things finally changed.
I went through a stage in life,
A long, hard, sad stage of
Trying to find myself.
I spent more time alone,
Crying, thinking, wanting to escape,
Missing out in life, happiness
And family things like
Weddings, Birthdays, and
Other important, memorable events.
I only remember being miserable.

After nights of crying
Myself to sleep and waking up
Wishing I slept forever,
I eventually found what I wanted.
Myself, my happiness, my life!
Even though "Starting Over,"
was hard and stressful too
It was worth it because now
I know I have a "perfect" life.
Since I have at least one
True and honest friend,
And family, who doesn't always understand
But mostly, they love me for me.
And I love them, and I'm
Thankful I've managed to become
A part of most of their lives.
And even if I don't show it,
I'm happy with my "perfect" life!

**This is a poem I wrote for school last year. My teacher really liked it, and I decided to share it with you and see what you thought of it. Sorry its so long!**
