Airport security bans holiday favorite -- fruitcake....Flame-On

(12/11/03 - MONTREAL) — Everyday potential threats are seized in airports.

And at this time of year at the Dorval Airport in Montreal, security risks include fruitcakes.

No, not someone whose elevator doesn't go all the way to the top floor. Nope, a real fruitcake -- the kind you eat. It seems the centuries old dessert foils modern day x-ray machines. Put quite simply, the machine can't see through the cake.

Jacques Duchesneau with the Canadian Air Transportation Security explained, "When it's seen through our machine might represent something we might want to check."

"I can't see that you could hit somebody with it, ha-ha, it's a fruit cake! It's what little grandmas make," said Sandy Stevens.

So just to be on the safe side, if you're traveling the friendly skies with a fruitcake you might want to put it in with your checked luggage.
