Dilemma - options for a second book - Lady Lee

Ok the group of writers that I collaborated with for the Tales of Christmas book (that Chapters will be selling) is considering trying a second book about mothers.

Most of the stories in the book will probably be about wonderful mothers. Well as some of you may know I didn't get one of those.

I don't have to submit a story for this book if I don't want to. And I am not a fiction writer (as I'm sure most of you have guessed if you have read some of what I have posted here)

I am really divided about writing a submission for the book. I know it would have to be real but my real isn't exactly warm and lovey about mothers.

If you bought a book about mothers, (let's say for Mother's Day) would you think a sad story or recovery story such as I might write would be out of place in the book.

I was thinking possibly of talking about my mother or mothering in general or the "mothering instinct" and how some mothers don't have it.

I will appreciate all your input into this.

Date: 12/4/2003 10:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 37872    I think you should write about whatever it is you want to write about. I'd like to read about different aspects of 'mothering', not just the super warm and fuzzy. I think anything anyone could write about mothering could end up having a valid point to it and make a good story. Does the book have to be only about a certain type of typical, perfect and politically correct motherly heroic figure? If not, let the ink start flowing.
Date: 12/5/2003 10:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 54987    How do you feel about your mother now? My mother wasn't a good mother either, but since her passing we have become close spiritually. We talk in spirit and she has moved on in lots of ways. She is happy and I now realise why we chose each other to be mother and son. She taught me a lot of things that a loving mother perhaps couldn't. Her passing gave me the experience of abandonment, the experience of rejection, both of which I must have needed in order to find compassion for others. Through the pain of loss of both my parents at a young age I have become a better person. My choice to learn through that experience has paid itself back tenfold. Both of them are around me when I am at peace and we still teach each other.

Date: 12/5/2003 11:31:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 55536    Koolade that is kool. My mother is still alive and doesn't talk to me - refused to come to my daughter's wedding because I would be there. Funny thing is though that I never fought with her. I used to take care of her and when I stopped doing that I became useless to her. Glad you have found a path that works for you.
