Date: 10/29/2003 5:35:00 PM From Authorid: 15228 You don't get to choose where you go, unless maybe it is written into the initial contract. You get to write down your top 3 choices, than they send you any place but your top 3 choices. #1. Don't believe the recruiter on anything he says. #2. Get everything written into the contract. If your boyfriend wants a certain occupation, make sure it is written into the contract. Basic training isn't that bad. After all, if I can make it, anyone can make it. It usually isn't 5 drills yelling at you, it is only one and it isn't anything nearly as bad as the marines basic. They get 30 days of leave per year. |
Date: 10/29/2003 5:40:00 PM From Authorid: 62401 my husband is in the air force. He says that Army Basic is much harder than Air Force Basic. More yelling, and more physical exercise. They let you fill out what they call a "Dream Sheet." You put what bases you want to be on on the dream sheet, but there is no guarantee what so ever that he will be placed there. The only way you get to pick is if he does Reserves. You dont really pick, but you get stationed on the base as close to home as possible. You find out where you will be stationed after Tech school, which is where he will go to learn how to do whatever it is he wants to do. They send people to basic once a week. Leave (as in vacation, i think that is what you are thinking about) is vacation. My husband gets 2.5 days of leave a month. He doesnt know if it is the same for all the military. That equals 30 days a year. If you have any more questions you can e-mail me at [email protected]. Hope that info helps! Lindsay |
Date: 10/29/2003 5:51:00 PM From Authorid: 62367 Kelly is right. Get any promises or guarantees in writing before enlisting. Usually you can get an guarantee for training in a specific job (if you pass the aptitude tests or physical) or the choice of station/country. You do not get both. You will be asked to list places you would like to be stationed. You may or may not get these. Everything is based on the needs of the service at the time. If you fail your promised AIT (job) training, you will be reassigned to train as something else, again according to the needs of the military. Basic Training was tough but not impossible. I went in unable to do a single pushup. I came out doing 30. I could'nt march either. Every time, I went in the wrong direction it was "get down and give me 10 (pushups)" several times a day for 8 weeks. |
