Anyone know anything about economics? I need some help from you. -Pyro-

Ok, I am representing my high school at the Alabama Oratorical Contest (I kinda got jipped into doing it, but that's beside the point). Anyway, the topic is "Learn Today..... Lead Tomorrow" Due to short expectations in the economy, many economic leaders of yesterday are companies that are struggling to stay afloat today. Based on current events, what lessons can the leaders of tomorrow's economy learn to be successful.

Here lies the problem. I don't know a thing about economics. If you could be of some assistance, it would be great. I am by no means asking someone to do my work for me, but if you could provide me with a link to a web page that could help me out or if you are educated in this topic and could throw in your two cents, it would help me tremendously.

Thanks for helping.

Date: 10/21/2003 5:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 62222    Most economics is based on supply and demand. Don't over produce as that drives the price of goods down, if you under produce it drives the cost up. You have to keep a happy medium. Some things are outrageously expensive because they are tightly manufactored. I would look for patterns of underproduction and overproduction of consumable goods and see how that taxed consumers. There was a problem with gas prices not too long ago that should be a good example. Also there are conflicts between domestic goods and martial goods. "Guns" and "Butter" is what they are referred to in economics. Look for flucutations in government spending on military goods and then look for overall trends in spending then look for production of domestic goods and check overall spending. Ummm....I would also research the foreign market, imports and exports, that can have a tremendous effect on the economy. If foreign markets under bid US producers then money goes to the foreign market to produce goods to sell here, but the money FOR the productions doesn't get distributed here for workers to spend, IE providing jobs, that can damage businesses and the economy too. That's about all I can remember, I sure hope an econ major can help you out better than me. I am struggling to remember stuff from a AP Econ class I took about 6 years ago. Try hitting up MSN for information on Micro and Macro Economics. <RegretfulHalo>
