No, no, yes, no. Hehehehehe. Sorry. Th first three I think are ok with one word answers. The fourth needs a little more. On one hand we have the right to vote, but if a person feels that th system is corrupt, or wrong in some way, it would not make them a bad citizen to refuse participation in such a system. Trust me, I almost tore up my voters registration after the 2000 election. If the electoral college and congress, or the courts are going to pick the president, what is the point in voting. Still, I chose not to and have decided to continue to use my rights, no matter how useless it may be. |

What??? We haven't had a good abortion debate for at least a week. I thought I was doing a public service )) As for your question, voting should not be mandatory. Although I think someone who doesn't vote, yet complains about the direction the country is going in, should be fined...not really. But it is annoying to think about. I think as long as someone obeys the law and pays their taxes they are a good citizen whether they vote or not. |

No I don't think voting should be mandatory but maybe a card questioning why they didn't vote would be a good idea. It may shed some light as to what can be changed or what could motivate people to vote. |

It is a civic duty, the duty of a citizen to vote. What is a vote? An opinion. If your opinion is that you would be best served by abstaining from voting, then your vote is a vote for not voting. |

In Australia it is against the law not to vote. If you are leaving the country you have to put in an early vote. If you are unable to vote then you have to provide adequate reason why you didn't otherwise you are fined. I honestly think that if you are voting you become more politically aware so when the whole of the nation goes to the ballot box you will often get the results you think are fair. Their is never going to be ultimate democracy. I actually think it's disgusting that people in a country don't have enough nationalistic pride to value their right to vote. Everyone should be made to! |

Kurt, in the times that I've not voted it was because there wasn't anyone running that I wanted to be elected. I can't see forcing people to vote "just because" and for someone that they truly don't want in office. |
