Slipknot's Joey Jordison has spoken exclusively to Kerrang! about recording their forthcoming album. The drummer has revealed that the band are currently working and living together in a haunted house in Los Angeles. "The house was built in 1918," says Jordison. "It's pretty much a mansion and it's very haunted. You'll be standing there, getting literally pushed, and look around and there's no-one there that could do that.My door would open at 9-9:30am for the first two weeks until I put a brick in front of it to stop that happening." Helmed by Slayer/SOAD producer Rick Rubin,Jordison, who's keeping song titles and details of the band's new masks tightly under wraps, says the as-yet-untitled new album sees Slipknot swerve in their most experimental direction yet. "This time we've got timpanies,we've got moog keyboards," he reveals, "There's a bunch of weird stuff as far as sounds and experimentation goes;it's a bit more out there and a bit more spacey. It's almost as if Slayer was tapping on Radiohead.I don't want that to freak anyone out,but that's just where we're at right now." With all side-project related disputes behind them,Jordison also reports that the atmosphere of friendship and creativity in the Slipknot camp has never been rosier. "This is just a big house where we all get to live together," he adds. "Me and Shawn wrote songs together and that never happened before.Me and Mick write stuff together , and that's never happened before. As reflected on the album and it's going to be the best f**king album we've ever turned out." Slipknot's third album is due out next April.
