The ghost of a Civil War soldier is blamed for such odd phenomena as opening and closing doors, lights going on and off throughout the house, anda bell pull in the dining room that has a mind of its own. James Howard Whitehurst was wounded in the head at the Battle of New Market and spent his final years confined to a bed in an upstairs bedroom here. The house was built in 1792. The house is across from the street from the Prince Ann Courthouse and is a private residence.Same source,pp.436-437.33 DEGREE

Date: 10/12/2003 2:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 25307    Very interesting story. I don't think I would want to live there. Has anyone actually seen him? There seem to be a lot of civil war hauntings.
