Ok I am starting out on taking birth control, but I am way confused. My Doctor told me to start on the first day of my cycle which i assumed was the first day of my period. The pharmacists guy said though that is the day after my last day of my period. And on the instrustions it says to take my first pill within the first 24 hours that i start my period. And i've also had other people say no that i start it on the first day after i stop bleeding. So i am not sure which to believe. Is there anyone here who can tell me when i start my pills or give me a place to go that will tell me? Oh Also I wanted to know, it says I can also start the sunday after I start my period, but it says I will need to use a back up so I don't get pregnant for the first 7 days. I want to know does that mean every month I use a back up or just the first month I start using them?

Date: 10/11/2003 11:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 59418    I suggest that, to be on the safe side, you go back to your doctor where you got them from, and get ask them! *hugs*
Date: 10/11/2003 11:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 53909    I remmeber when I took birth controls but I can't remember when I had to start. That was a couple years ago. I'm sorry that I can't remember, but I would go back to to doctor or maybe do a phone call.
Date: 10/11/2003 12:19:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14464    Well thanks guys for the help! I think i'll just do the sunday start, it seems less confusing. The only reason i didn't want to do it before was because i didn't want to have to use a back up every month!
Date: 10/11/2003 12:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 18928    i did the sunday start. and i got my period every month on sundays after that. no matter when you start to take them you will need a back up for the entire month.
Date: 10/11/2003 1:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 29532    start it the FIRST day. That way, the sugar pills will be used when you don't need the pregnancy control. ALSO, you only need to use backup the first month. After that, you cannot get pregnant.
Date: 10/11/2003 1:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 29532    P.S. Congrats on taking this responsibility. Your too young to have a baby. I'm 23 and think some days that I am still too young.
Date: 10/11/2003 4:42:00 PM  ( Admin-FA )   Start on Sunday.
Date: 10/11/2003 8:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 62246    I'd ask my doctor, even though your not exactly sure what he meant, he's still a professional and knows this stuff. So try calling him and asking him again. -Sparky the WonderDog
Date: 6/11/2005 2:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 23075    Actually even being on the pill is NOT 100 percent effective. You can get pregnant..but ask your dr. exactly when you start taking them.
