MovieReview: "The Rundown"

title: "The Rundown"

starring: The Rock, Seann William Scott, Christopher Walken, Rosario Dawson

genre: action comedy

The Rock layeth the smacketh down in his newest movie entree, "The Rundown," which follows him down to the Amazon to pick up imcompetent treasure collector Travis Walker (Scott). As Mr. Beck, the Rock is a muscular montage of Arnold and Sly, and his comedic quickness is well cast. But leave it to Christopher Walken, as the delectable, despicable Hatcher, to give the film glam and grits when it isn't firing bullets and swinging punches. You see, Hatcher owns the town Walker now resides in, and is using its natives to dig and mine for a lot less than minimum wage. Walken is the same crickety dolt he plays in most of his movies; only this time it works in a villainous, off-beat way. When the Rock gets down to El Dorado, his constant bickering with the Stifmeister gets a bit old, as does the slo-mo swooping camerawork. But where Beck and Walker get cobwebbed, Rosario Dawson comes to the rescue both in the cast and the film; she's a sexy, down-and-dirty gal, and heck if she's going to let the men have all the fun. What "The Rundown" is is pure testosterone, quick-witted, quick-paced, and quickly over. But the Rock, in his first good movie, crackles and snorts, leaving you to have a darn good time. grade: B+

cool scenes: action/fights

look out for: Ahnold??

MPAA: PG-13

out there:

"Secondhand Lions": B+

"Matchstich Men": B

"Once Upon a Time in Mexico": B-

coming up:

"Scary Movie 3"

"Kill Bill, Volume 1"

Date: 9/26/2003 9:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    I don't normally get into the action flicks but I may check this out on video. I wanna see Mystic River, have you heard of that one yet?
Date: 9/26/2003 9:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 29387    I do recommend this one Release Me...and yes, Mystic River looks great - Sean Penn and Tim Robbins alone guarantee a good flick, plus with Clint Eastwood directing, it's already got strong Oscar buzz...I think it's scheduled for October 8th (but only in limited release)...
Date: 10/21/2003 7:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 48689    I want to see this one soooo bad! I don't know about Mystic River...I've only heard abnout it...I haven't really looked into it. Thanks for posting!
