I don't know how they have the nerve!

I asked my 7 year old son to go to the local shop for me. I always tell him that I want a receipt as I'm always wary of him being overcharged.

Well, he came back, minus the receipt but that's not what appalled me.

I gave my son £3 because I didn't know how much the item cost. It was actually 99p. So he came home with a £2 coin and a 1 US cent. Huh???? I guess they were trying to pass it off as a 1p. It didn't fool me!

So I wrote a little note and sent him back to the shop. The note said: Bells Stores, I would like my change in the correct currency, please. Thank you.

My son said the shop assistant looked shocked and gave him the 1p!

I know it's only 1p but it's the principle of the thing.

Thank you for reading.

Date: 9/26/2003 9:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 1225    I remember one time while I was working at a conveinience store we got 5 rolls ($2.50) of Canadian pennies from the bank, and they wouldn't take them back. We were stuck with Canadian currency!
Date: 9/26/2003 12:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i find that when it comes to change like that it gets soo mixed up US one penny as a canadian 1 penny even some small change US gets accepted with canadian because it looks the same(quarters dimes nickles pennies) so people tak it unknowingly
Date: 9/26/2003 1:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 1225    same with Australian nickles!
Date: 9/26/2003 2:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 62222    How far is this store from your house? I don't know that I would allow my seven year old to go anywhere unsupervised but your neighborhood must be different from mine.........<RegretfulHalo>
Date: 9/26/2003 10:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    Ditto to RegretfulHalo's comment, I was wondering about that same thing and whether the change was worth his going by himself.
Date: 9/27/2003 12:39:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 52746    The shop is about a minute away on foot, not even that, really. He spends his pocket money in there each week so the staff actually know him by sight. I know it was only small change, it was the principal of the thing. He was happy to go back.
Date: 9/27/2003 8:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 53558    That's life for you, Sammie. Great big hugs. Take care.
Date: 9/28/2003 9:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    Oh, well that's good to know... that it's very close by. As for the principle of it all... I agree with you.
