Oh, on the contrar I'm totally agreeing with you. I'm a teen, and though I'm not completely lazy lazy, I am lazy I must admit. The video games, I know those things suck in my bro like you wouldn't imagine. When I play against him on a game, he just totally beats me so bad. He spends to much time on it, and tv! Computers (my addiction) we be lazy |

Yes I see it. I do not have any kids as of yet...I pray and hope to one day. Society is changing at a rapid pace, it is not helping our youth or the futur generations. Most children are spoiled these days and lack responsibilty and independence that starts with the parents and society as a whole. Did not mean to offend any teenagers out there...just my veiws. |

i think it's society as a whole that has become lazier... around here i know it's hecka hard to get on a team sport they fill up superfast(but that may just be canada... or this town) take a look in the last 20-30 years we have gotten remotes.. laptops/computers... groceryshopping/banking/general shopping at home with delievery! we have electric lawn mowers, dryers that make little need to iron... cars in every home sometimes two and dishwashers in most homes.... |

yes Two Spirits, I think parents can and should play a big role in the exercising of their children, and it doesn't matter how old they are either, the kids I mean....get them off their playstations, watching tv, computers (lol) and out into some activities...when its wet, it could be different but on the lovely sunny days they should be outside enjoying it....now as far as the kids being lazy about walking to bus stops, near me is a stop, and the bus picks up about 15 kids, the buses only make several pick ups, so if you are not there...tough, they've missed the bus...good post... |

I was about to say "forget you, I'm walking", but then it started hailing, lol, I have to beg him to let me walk home, or let me walk to his house, there's a mall right down the street from where I live, and usually I just walk, but he HAS to drive..it's so annoying!! lol |

Definatly kids are getting lazier, and so are parents. I must be an exception though, my parents didn't let me ride a bike on the road because it's way too busy by my house. But they did make me do way more active chores then other kids I'm sure. Misbehaved- "Go outside and clear brush along the fence", if I said I was bored I had to go outside and do work, if I was doing nothing I had to go outside and do work ect... I do live on a farm/ranch so I guess it makes sense though. |

Like the laziness factor, we are also getting more fearful. I don't think my niece and nephew would ever be allowed to ride their bikes across town like my siblings and I did just ten years ago. We are a nation of fat, lazy individuals. Even our homeless are fat. I guess that's what we get for being the hardest working nation. Make sense? |

It would seem everyone is in agreement that we are not only raising a lazy generation, but that the generation that is raising them also has it's share of laziness. A few people have talked of the activities they do in order to get some exercise or stay active. What about others, how do you stay active? For me, I work four 10 hour days doing construction work. I am up and down ladders all day, dragging metal roofing panels and putting them in place, or setting steel. The oher three days, I am busy with my antiques. It takes as much as 5 hours to set up and break down for a show, which includes setting up tables and shelf units, as well as hauling around 25+ boxes loaded with antiques and collectibles. In fact, in the past year, I have lost about 40 pounds, was wearing a 20W a year ago but now wear a size 14-16, and my blood pressure is back within the normal range after a couple of years of being borderline high. |

BCAR, I have wonder if the schools feel they know more now about the kids than the parents do. There was a time when the schools turned to the parents for advice and worked with parents in order to make the learning experience better. Having a cousin who was a bus driver on a rural route, she use to talk to the parents of kids on her route, and together they would work out what was the best pickup and drop off points for the kids, so that the highest number of kids could get on and off the bus at any given point, so that their ride was as short as possible to and from school. My daughter has been out of school now for several years, so I am not sure how the school systems do things now, but are parents allowed any input into their children's school day anymore? |

When I was a kid (granted, I'm only 20 now) there were 4 bus stops, I walked about a mile to mine. Then when I was in Jr. and Sr. high scool I rode my bike 3 miles to school. This was only about 2-5 years ago. But perhaps it was because I lived in a rural community where laziness was frowned upon. Now that I live in San Francisco, I see laziness and beslothery all the time. |

LOL big daddi, five channels?? Try three and they weren't clear. In the town I lived you had to live way out of town to ride the bus. We either walked to school or rode our bikes to school. There were me and my two sisters that rode bikes but the three little boys that lived a block from us didnt have bikes so we pumped them to school everyday. In the winter time, my bundled us up in snow suits for the walk, or if it was really really bad and she happen to have the truck then we would get a ride. There was nothing to do inside , except board games and we played them in the winter, but mostly we were outside playing baseball, tag, kickball, climbing trees, hide and seek or riding bikes. Lots of saturday mornings we would gather with the cousins and take a little lunch pack with us and go on nature walks. We had a blast. I mean one was only as good as thier imagination at that time. Today I get my exersise walking up and down a hill all day and all over the resort cleaning. OR I did until now were back in nevada and all I've done is eat and drink soda pop, I swear I've got to do something as I'm not use to just sitting doing nothing. I mean you can only clean the house so long, heheheh. |

We live just under a mile from my daughters school and she doesn't have a bus, but I drive her to school every morning only because there is a very busy highway with NO cross walk she would have to cross, plus no sidewalks, kids are always walking in the road because of this..otherwise I would make her walk. In fact, the only punishment that gets through to her is the threat that she will have to walk to school if she doesn't do as I say (I used it this morning, it's very effective)...yes, kids are lazy. |

Are we raising "lazy" kids? I think that depends on how you want to view "lazy". Does that mean "inactive" to you or does that mean "not willing or wanting to work hard"? My kids are far from inactive, and none of us have a weight problem. But that doesn't mean that they want to work hard. As a kid, when I saw something that needed to be done (e.g., dusting), I did it without having to be told. My kids have to be told to do any kind of housework, but they are the ones to tell me that they have to get to sports practice or scouts or whatever else activity they are involved in. When they're told that they won't get to go until such and such is done, then they'll get moving, but the whole give and take aspect of them keeping active keeps me active, so I guess I shouldn't complain. My question, though, is are we raising kids with no initiative, i.e., kids that will just get up and do something on their own without having to have it scheduled for them? God Bless. |

I am a teen, and yes, I agree with you that people in 'developed' countries are getting lazier. But that is often viewed as simply a natural *cough* part of evolution. We didnt want to walk, hence the car. We didnt want to cook, hence fast food. History is full of inventions that were created purely to make things easier. Result? Overweight, lazy people. i agree with ya'll, but out here walking isn't an option, i live in a rural area, my high school is like 17 miles away, my middle school was like nearly 30 miles away, my elementary school was 8 miles away maybe, and if i were to walk to a bus stop it'd be dangerous, there are no sidewalks and cars FLY down the roads i'm talkin 70 mph, i mean i think that there are about 3 of us that actually should have ONE bus stop but i'm not complainin that i have to just walk up my driveway, half the kids out here have long driveways which is one of the reasons they have they're own stops, then the kids we pick up are on route 15 which has one of the highest accident rate in the state at LEAST it ranks high in the country too, but any ways we are raising lazy kids (myself included) but that's what you get when it's too easy to do everything, |

i agree with derek, the schools expects all 9 of my teachers to assign 30 minutes of homework every night, that works out to about 3 hours and 10 minutes, i get home at 3, i shouldnt get done till around 6:10, well my mom expects us to eat dinner at 5 with the family, that takes an hour to eat and clean the kitchen then get back to homework, schools expect to much out of us these days when they can do it all in school, another thing id like to add is where i live i find gym fun but in alaska i hated it, maybe it was just the teachers, i still kinda hate gym cause its just plain humiliating, i dont consider myself lazy i mean if i was lazy i wouldnt get up on stage and drench myself in sweat from moving so much and playing guitar |

Derek and Jestr, I'm not sure how the schools are in other areas, but here, many of the schools have cut back on the homework. One reason is they have changed from the old traditional school day, to a 4 class a day schedule. Many of the school systtems have also gone to an extended or year round system, set up similiar to the way colleges set up their school year. |

I have to agree with Zema, parents are not as involved. At least not in my area. We are grandparents and have a very active role in the lives of our grandchildren. We are the ones who taught them to ride bikes, roller blade, ice skate, and my husband is the only male involved in Cub Scouts. My grandkids are six and four, we would never allow them to walk alone to school. As for being lazy, none of us could be accused of that. We both work 40 plus hours and still manage to stay active with the little ones. |

The way I see it is that we are now in a society of quick fixes, we want everything now, fast food, fast banking, faxes etc. The kids today are a generation raised on electronics and computers and games have sadly replaced the simple things that I use to do as a kid. I think kids are the way us parents let them be and the way we raise them. we have no choice but to leave them alone as it takes two incomes just to pay some of the bills, they get home, eat micro wave food, and have access to fun stuff that doesn't involve moving much. Come to think of it I'm 44 and I don't remember the last time i even took a walk LoL! |

As a teenager, I do feel that my generation is pretty lazy. We ARE pretty darn lazy. About the bus stops...I didn't know the buses do that now. I thought they made only 2 or 3 stops and took the kids off to school. I have never attended a public school in my life, so I don't know how the bus thing works; but I thought I had an idea of how it works. Hmm...guess I was wrong. Thanks to television, computers, video games (which my parents never, EVER let me have ), kids are getting lazy, and obese. I used to run out and play like crazy about oh 10 years ago or so. Baseball, basketball, tag, you name it. Once I got more into the computer thing, it was all over! Alas, I have fallen pray to the computer age. -DevilsRoad- |
