I have a pet question about dry pet food *PunkStarChik*

Hey everyone! :)

This question goes towards pet owners that feed their pets dry food. I have been feeding my cats the same dry food ever since we got them. They've been eating Meow Mix Seafood flavor.

I've been wanting to change their food to the original Meow Mix flavor but my boyfriend said that it wouldn't be a good idea to switch their food because it might upset their stomach. The reason why I want to change to the orginal Meow Mix is because it's a lot cheaper than the Seafood flavor and the other flavor usually has more lbs of food in the bag.

My parents have 3 dogs and they usually change the brand and flavor of dog food and they seem to be fine. So I'm wondering if our cats would be okay if I changed their food. I know that some animals can be picky with their food but it would be saving us a bit more money.

What do you think? I hope that this isn't a stupid or silly question to ask because this is my first time having cats of my own. LOL!

Date: 9/25/2003 6:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    I have switched my cats dry food about three times now and he hasn't had any problems with it. I tried meow mix once, but now he is on Science Diet for kittens.
Date: 9/25/2003 6:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    as long as you don't change it on a weekly basis

Date: 9/25/2003 6:24:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Release Me...I need to get one of my cats on a diet. He's almost 1 year old and weighs about 13 pounds. Other other cat who's older and also almost a year old weighs about 9 pounds.
Date: 9/25/2003 6:25:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Midnightly...I don't plan on doing that. I've stuck with the Seafood flavor for almost a year now and I don't give them any other food.
Date: 9/25/2003 6:25:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Midnightly...Other than the food that I want to change to. LOL That would be the only other dry food I've given them.
Date: 9/25/2003 7:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    our cats have been on cheap stuff and now we have them on friskies... they have tried 2-3 brands in between but now they are being put onto meow mix and see how they take to it...
Date: 9/25/2003 7:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 14780    Depending what kind of cat food is on sale is what my cat eats..she seems fine with it as long as she gets her food.
Date: 9/25/2003 9:34:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Midnightly...I'm hoping that they'll like the other Meow Mix. I don't think that there's too much of a difference. LOL!
Date: 9/25/2003 9:35:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Katsho...There has been a time acutally when I had to get a different brand of food because it was cheaper. We were tight and short on money then and they were fine with that food. But they didn't have that food for a while. I kept that box for an emergency for a while incase we got low on cat food and money.
Date: 9/27/2003 2:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 62367    I've got 4 cats. They are fed only dry food. They eat anything I buy them. So far I have not had any problems. Their ages run from 2-10 years of age and they have no health problems. They usually get Meow Mix or Purina Cat Chow. If you have any doubts or trouble gradually change the food.
Date: 9/27/2003 2:26:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    62367...When Mittens was really young, we had her on wet food. We tried to feed her dry food a little aftwards but she couldn't eat it. then we mixed some wet food with a little dry food and then she got used to eattind dry food.
Date: 11/6/2003 9:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 13283    If you are moving from one kind of meow mix to another meow mix , it should not be a problem . They just differ in flavor . Its when you move from meow mix , to like friskies , it then does become a problem . Cats have very sensitive stomachs . I feed my cat everything that is Friskies . They need variety ( different flavors ) too ! Razzy aka
Date: 11/8/2003 10:58:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Razzy....I still feel kinda silly for asking a question like I did. LOL! But I didn't know and it was my first time having cats of my own The cats ended up eatting the new flavor of food just fine which I'm very happy about.
Date: 7/26/2008 9:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 36901    I know this post is old, but you shouldn't feed your cat Meow Mix at all. Cheap brands like that are absolutely horrible for them. You'd probably freak out if you knew what is in that junk. You should look for a natural cat food brand.
