Date: 9/25/2003 4:39:00 PM From Authorid: 33925 Hmmmm..I dont know about that..Of course I love meeting new people, but I would hate to see things like before the fee was put into place. There were some people that caused alot of trouble here and when they were banned they just created new accounts and kept coming back. There are a few I would NEVER want to see back here again. |
Date: 9/25/2003 4:40:00 PM From Authorid: 43608 Lower the price to at least 2-3 dollars? Remember the huge waves of people that used to join, well over a hundred (WELL WELL OVER)? The site would basically pay for itself. |
Date: 9/25/2003 4:44:00 PM From Authorid: 57074 I wanted my little cousin to join the site but she doesnt have 5$ and her mom wont pay for her to join the site so i guess she wont becoming a memeber |
Date: 9/25/2003 4:45:00 PM From Authorid: 43608 And Lower Prices attracts more people. (Look at Wal*Mart) |
Date: 9/25/2003 4:47:00 PM From Authorid: 43608 Vabs, I think you can um...Refer (Right word? Not sure...)/suggest/whatever a person to join for free, if you're a member. |
Date: 9/25/2003 4:47:00 PM From Authorid: 16845 I agree with LL....It would be nice to have new members *And we DO get them, just not as often* But I wouldn't want to deal with the hassles of what we use to have prior to the paid accounts... |
Date: 9/25/2003 4:49:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 55582 if you want to know the site name message me |
Date: 9/25/2003 4:49:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 55582 there is another site like usm that you can join for free |
Date: 9/25/2003 4:56:00 PM ( Admin-KG ) When USM was free to join there were a lot of problems with banned members creating several acct.'s to hassle and harrass other members of the site. The only solution that the owners could come up with was a fee. Because nobody is going to pay $5 to come on here and harrass someone, then get banned just to pay the fee again to get on here, ya know? Its been a lot more peaceful here since the fee, and I agree with the fee 100%. We do get new people, almost every week, there just arent as many. |
Date: 9/25/2003 4:58:00 PM ( Admin-KG ) Sasuke, there is.... Any member that has a friend or a family member that they want to join USM, can sponsor that person to get an acct. here for free. All they have to do is contact Radman or Ginger via the FAQ's. |
Date: 9/25/2003 4:59:00 PM From Authorid: 57579 I have a few friends want to get on but they wont because of the fee... |
Date: 9/25/2003 5:08:00 PM From Authorid: 61901 Come on! 5 dollars... Its not like we are talking big bucks here... Anyone who can afford a dial up connection can get 5 bucks. |
Date: 9/25/2003 5:10:00 PM From Authorid: 53909 I like the idea of the fee. I didn't have to pay before but I would still paid to come to this site if I had to. It's well worth the 5 bucks and 5 bucks isn't really that much. You can easily save up 5 bucks. But I agree that it would be great to have a lot of new memebers but I do see new members every now and then. Just not as many. |
Date: 9/25/2003 5:11:00 PM From Authorid: 53909 Good point Ranger and the 5 bucks goes to G and G who put a lot of money into this wonderful site. |
Date: 9/25/2003 5:19:00 PM From Authorid: 55009 i think the fee is too much for many people... a few of my friends want to join but arn't going to give up the money they need to survive upon to join a website... and i have tried going through the whole sponser a friend/family memeber thing and i never got a reply from Ginger or George but granted they are busy people... |
Date: 9/25/2003 5:24:00 PM From Authorid: 7574 I wouldn't pay the fee if I signed up now. It's not a lot of money, I just wouldn't want to take the effort to do it... |
Date: 9/25/2003 5:25:00 PM From Authorid: 62222 I agree with the fee 100%. However....I am in a position where 5$ isn't that big of a deal to me and I can see how it would be a big deal to others. I would be more than willing to pay for my friends to join the site if they wanted to but again, I am in a position to do so.<RegretfulHalo> |
Date: 9/25/2003 5:42:00 PM From Authorid: 56293 It would be nice to have more new members, but yeah, there we're alot of problems when they didn't have the fee. |
Date: 9/25/2003 6:16:00 PM From Authorid: 40979 I would love for new people to join . I never have liked the fee it join but Hey !!! George and Ginger work hard and keep this place up too . How else would they have money to keep USM up ? If people really wanna join then they would . Wether they paid 5 or 500 bucks , |
Date: 9/25/2003 6:46:00 PM From Authorid: 24732 I've always opposed the $5 fee ever since it first came about, we all knew it would decrease new people here and that's exactly what it has done. I hate the idea of any websites charging $ (I run a website myself with an expensive domain name and hosting fee so I know the costs). But as in many cases what the members of USM want, does not reflect what the owners do. |
Date: 9/25/2003 6:51:00 PM From Authorid: 24732 And people who say- if they really wanted to join they would pay [no matter what]. That is not true, I would never pay for any website that charged money. I've seen other message boards that make you pay for asking technical advice on proxies and such, and I really wanted to join those. But since there was a charge I said forget it. I've also known a few people who come to my website clubalien.com who saw me on USM and then went to my site. They also really wanted to join, but didn't because they didn't want to pay. |

When I accidently discovered USM I knew NO-ONE here. The fee stops people like myself from joining. Yes it is quiet here now as a result, its almost silent I do not know how to stop ignorant people from joining but I DO know the fee has stopped many people who could have contributed to this site from doing so. I remember the griefers too, I also have only memories of what this site was. The reduced influx of fresh posters is very sad. |
Date: 9/25/2003 10:56:00 PM ( SD-Admin ) If you will all go back and read the posts Ginger and George made when the fee was applied here you will have a few answers to your questions. New members can be Represented by Members that have been here for a while. ReaDd their posts and you will see... |
Date: 9/26/2003 2:50:00 PM From Authorid: 55903 I know that I have been here only a little over a year, and joined before the fee went into effect, But I think that that the reasons for adding the fee were a valid one, and respect G and G's right to do this. $5 is a very very very small fee compared to some sites I have seen. If you can sponsor somneone and help them get for free, that is great though. |
Date: 9/27/2003 1:53:00 PM From Authorid: 32806 I have read all the posts, it doesn't change the fact that if you are NEW you DO NOT know anyone here to sponser you......and you move on to the next site |
Date: 9/27/2003 3:58:00 PM From Authorid: 10344 But look how slow things are here now. There have been maybe 4 or 5 post in the last 24 hours. There's basically nothing to do here anymore. The problems maybe gone but so is the fun. I don't know if this because of the fee or not. Would be nice if there were alot more people here to contribute. |
