“Come on, Mom. Couldn’t you come to my soccer game, just this one time?” Ashley whined.
“Ashley, you know that I can’t go out during the day. The doctors said that I have a skin condition and that I must never, under any circumstances, go out when it is light.” Her mother responded.
“We’ll just send Jeeves and he’ll record the entire event on video,” she continued.
“I’m sorry,” Said Ashley “It’s just that all the other kids parents come and I thought you might be able to go out just this once. Do you think that Dad could come?”
“Dear, you know that both your father and I share the same ailment. Why we’ve told you the story about how we met at the clinic in Boston. There are so few people that share this disease. Others just don’t understand.”
“I’m sorry too,” Said Vanessa, her mother “Now go and start on your homework while I take a little nap.” Ashley headed up the stairs to her room while Vanessa headed for the basement.
“Wake up you old fossil!” Vanessa shouted as she banged against her husbands coffin. “This time she wants us to go to a soccer game,” she added in an agitated voice. “ I don’t know how much longer we can keep putting her off.”
“Perhaps we should tell her the truth?” her husband Vlad suggested in his deep silky voice.
“The truth!” she hissed back at him. “How do you tell you’re only daughter that the rest of the world still considers us monsters?”
Vlad gracefully stepped out of his coffin as she rushed towards him. She pummeled her fists against his chest as she let out a cry that could wake the dead (well almost).
“I’ve got an idea,” said Vlad. “A week from Saturday is Halloween and it would be the perfect time for Ashley to have her friends over for a party. After the soccer game the girls on her team could all come to our house. I’m sure that if anyone could throw a spectacular Halloween party it would be us”
Vanessa stopped beating his chest just long enough to listen to his idea. She had a flair for the dramatic that he found adorable. “Why that could be just the thing,” She said. “Ashley would finely have her parents at one of her functions and no one would ever suspect a thing. We’ll start planning right away. I’ll have Jeeves contact the other girls’ parents. I think that I might invite the boys’ soccer team as well. She’s getting to be old enough to have a coed party. Oh thank you dear. What would I do without you?” She hissed and bared her fangs. Vlad tilted his head back and let her have a good long drink. That usually calmed her down until she could feed again.
Ashley loved the idea for a Halloween party. She got together a guest list and Jeeves had the invitations in the mail. Of course it would be a costume party. Some parents were concerned about chaperons. Vlad and Vanessa asked them to come along to the party and help supervise. Of course the parents would have to wear costumes as well so they wouldn’t spoil the party. Needless to say the parents were somehow convinced that Vlad and Vanessa would be fine as chaperones.
The teenagers all began arriving for the party at 9:00 o’clock just as the invitation had stated. Some were even driving their own cars. “Kids just grow up so fast these days.” Vanessa said to Vlad.
“I know.” replied Vlad. “The costumes that the kids had put together are fantastic.” “ Look at that boy dressed as the mummy. And look at that girl dressed like a belly dancer”
Vanessa elbowed Vlad in the ribs. “Remember, you’re supposed to be a chaperone.”
“Sorry,” replied Vlad sheepishly.
The main ballroom of their mansion had been decorated by professionals for the party, and off to one side were the refreshments. Of course they had buckets of blood punch, cranberry juice, and reactor coolant, lemonade, flowing from a scale model of a nuclear power plant There were tons and tons of ghost cookies and devils food cake.
The party was a huge success. Boys and girls were dancing to the MONSTER MASH and all the other great oldies, or just talking to one another.
Vlad said “Looks like Ashley seems to be dancing with that young man dressed as Southern general quite a bit,” She had her head on his shoulder during one of the slow numbers. “Do you think that we have anything to worry about?” asked Vanessa. “No, she’ll be just fine. I don’t want you to over react about this,” said Vlad.
Around midnight the kids started to leave. Parents were picking them up just as they were supposed to and those who drove themselves were asked to drive home safely by Vlad. It had been a splendid party.
When all the guests had gone Vanessa said “Where’s Ashley?” Vlad said “We’d better look for her. I hope nothings the matter”
Both parents looked around hastily. She was nowhere to be found. “Her room!” said Vlad.
They quickly scrambled up the stairs. The door to Ashley room was slightly askew. Vlad and Vanessa could hear conversation. “Come on Ashley just a little more, please” “Ok replied Ashley “just a little one.”
Vlad quietly opened the door. He was just in time to see Ashley’s fangs grow and watched as his little girl bit the neck of her first victim. “More, more cried the Southern General. Vlad backed out of the room.
“Our little girl is growing up,” he said to Vanessa. “We need to stop her before we have a dead body too close to home to explain” Vanessa added “I don’t think that she’ll be able to go out in the daylight much longer”.
Vlad gently knocked on the door. “Ashley are you in there?”
“Just a minute dad” she replied.
Vanessa and Vlad entered the room. A little blood trickled down the neck of the young man dressed in grey. He seemed entirely under Ashley’s spell. “I think that it’s time for your young gentleman friend to get home,” said Vlad in his deep hypnotic voice. “I was just about to leave.” Replied the young general in a robot like voice.
Vanessa called for Jeeves to escort the young man to the door. Ashley wouldn’t look at her parents. She appeared a little embarrassed. Vlad commanded “Look at us.” Ashley sheepishly looked at her parents who bared their fangs at her for the first time.
“You have much to learn about life Ashley.” Said Vlad. “As your parents we can help” “Now what do you say to a late night snack?”
Ashley just grinned. Blood still dripped from her fangs. You can join Unsolved Mysteries and post your own mysteries or interesting stories for the world to read and respond to Click hereScroll all the way down to read replies.Show all stories by Author: 53284 ( Click here )
