I oftentimes thought back to the turbulent events surrounding Keith Caselli's disappearance. I remembered that night so clearly, I had nightmares about it a lot. I recalled the whine of the police cars as they dragged themselves to the scene of the crime. Had my mother lived, she'd have likely been thrown in jail not only for murder, but for abuse as well. Sarah, on the other hand, only wanted to be with her dead boyfriend, the man who'd cheated her and who she had hope for. She'd been hurt so bad, it was obvious she felt she had no choice but to take her own life. Keith's decayed corpse was dragged from the pond and he was given a proper burial. I heard tell his grandmother got down on her knees by the coffin and begged his forgiveness.
I graduated from high school with honors, all the while living with my aunt and uncle. Bobby Lee, Troy, and I continued to be friends, though Bobby Lee quit speaking so hatefully about Keith soon after the incident at the pond. All of us kept in contact, even in college, where I was studying to become a social worker.
Still, I couldn't help but remember Keith and his liberal views. I was so close-minded then, not wanting to listen to anything he tried to shove down my throat about the democrats. After his body was dragged from the pond, I began to actually read the newspapers more and look at news on the Internet. I don't know who I'm going to vote for now when the 2004 election rolls around.
I was just glad this was all over with.
