I Can Breathe

One reason
was all I needed
to change
my mind
and my life.
So much pain
no happiness
until that night
my eyes adjusted
to reality.
No longer blind,
a truth came
showed me
not to discourage.
To take over
and dismiss
those who walk
on a cracked back.
Standing up
with new eyes
the hurt
is worth this.
Strength given
and wisdom
passed on down.
At last
I could breathe.
