There is no privacy in school in the first place the show has the keys to every ones lockers so they can get into them anyhow if they need too.. I just never found the school having any privacy in the first place. |

that is why I added the "if there is one??" (re: privacy issue) lol I don't see it as privacy, except for the bathroom stalls and locker-room areas... |

What about the bathroom, are they camera free? I can see why the schools would want to protect students from trouble but at the same time, what about the students that aren't doing wrong? I suppose I've mixed feelings on this for the way it seems violence is everywhere these days, it gives a parent and students maybe a false sense of protection in having the cameras in schools. |

Hopefully they won't push it for cameras being put in locker rooms or bathroom stalls.. I doubt it but you never know.. |

the idea of cameras in high schools, while not suprising, is still disturbing to me. some schools have metal detectors, all (to my knowledge) have security guards, and some even do locker checks if they suspect the child has drugs. what more could security cameras do? One thing that we have to do is to be aware of the fine "what if" line ... the line that tells us "what if we had this ... then this wouldn't have happened" ... he have to be careful to establish where that line is reasonable and where it is not ... what we would be doing with security cameras in schools is condition a child with expectations that they are going to be watched and monitored throughout their life to avoid deviant behaviour against their will -- and i personally wouldn't feel comfortable living in that sort of society. /.02 |

This bothers me because I am worried abotu what the kids will try to do WHEN no one is watching. Conditioning a child that people are always watching them can actually create a need to be more deviant than normal when no one is watching. Sometimes it makes me sad when I see how cautionary we are being instead of just finding a way to provide solid leadership examples, morals and role models. Kids think doing things wrong now means you just got caught, not that what you were doing was arong to begin with...<RegretfulHalo> |

The purpose of the cameras in the hallways is not only to spy on what may go down like a Columbine incident but because let's face it, someone comes in to take over the school, they are going for the cameras first, but also because technology has advanced. Schools have THOUSANDS of dollars in equipment, computers, art supplies, machinery, tools etc. It's not a one room school house where all the vandals can do is just throw a cherry bomb in the toilet and break the toilet. This is thousands of our tax paying dollars at the hands of children and a totally different time frame. When I was in high school, after our matches we could walk back to the school and be able to get in around 7pm. We ran the halls, went into the cafeteria and raided the fridge. Yep here we were stealing. However we were boosting a bunch of frosted brownies, these days they don't boost the brownies, the frame of mind has changed. |

ACLU... a university if i have it right?? well with students around at all hours of the day and night i think it's right!!... outside the school and all around the school and in "dark quiet areas" of the school it's not just to beat colimbine style stuff.. it's also student prodection from being mugged...and attacked or even worth!! |

Well if you look at it I live in Colorado only about 45 minutes to an hour away from Littleton where columbine happened, and right now i think security is better then privacy in schools, and also in schools you don't have privacy to start out with your in a district building around a bunch of staff and students you don't have privacy period in a school. |

that is the American Civil Liberties Union Midnightly, they are like the watchdog group for rights and freedom. I think you are thinking of UCLA with the university... I guess what the question will come down to is what the expectation of privacy actually is in school, and in any other public place. I know here in Vancouver they have cameras in key places during public events and these are used to identify the peoplle causing problems, I recall the playoff riot when the Canucks went to the finals the cameras were recording then and the cops used the images on the news to get people to phone in and identify the trouble makers... on the up side they did catch a lot of them. |

I have no problem with it. Any store that you go into and many businesses have them installed. Schools should be open for any and all to see what is happening behind the classroom doors and in the hallways. |

I think it's fine that the schools have cameras. I mean, unless you're doing something wrong, why should it bother you? |

Unless of course, the cameras are in the bathroom...lol. My school has never had anything happen even close to what happened at Columbine or those other schools, but we still have cameras out in front of the school and in some of the hallways and lobbies, and I think there are some around the back entrances too. I think they help deter the people who use drug, bring guns/knives, etc. It's not like those schools that have metal detectors...now THAT'S what I'd call invading privacy. It's just wrong that they should have to do that, but I guessed if they're pushed that far... |

sorry my bad i don't know all the abbreves for everything within the US(seeing i'm canadian i don't keep ontop of all US news) but i think cameras are a good thing... it's the protection factor... houses that have cameras get broken in less....same with stores... same with schools that have them have less issues with violence and theft within the schools... cameras are for good safe methods... i've heard of towns that have cameras installed throughout the town for traffic and illegal things... if an accident happens or someone vandalizes the building they just pull up the tape |

I think the cameras are a good idea..better to be safe now than sorry later. The High School that my boys attend has the cameras as well as security officers that patrol the hallways. |

i think the cameras are a great idea. I can't even count how many my school has... theres at least one in nearly every hall way (and no, there are no cameras in the bathrooms or locker rooms). And of course there are the security guards and just last year they installed a security booth right at the main entrance. |

I always fake pick my nose and make faces at the cameras. I always waved at them when I would skip school and leave early or come in late..lol |
