The Notebook.

I decided to clean out my closet this morning. Among the many things in that closet, was my card board box. Everyone has this box. Its that box that leads you down memory lane.

It got me thinking, thinking of me. Thinking of whom “me” was, is, and should be.

Wow, did I make some mistakes.

In my past, I have been stung by rejection from a father. I have fallen in love to the point I had problems breathing w/out her by my side. I have seen my seen many friends begin living a grown life before finishing living their youthful one. I have battled my battles with religion. I have created god, just tear him apart.

And all of this, I have documented in my cardboard box.

I think of telling this to my children, someday.

I think of telling them that someday they will have a box like this, to tell them of their mistakes, shortcomings, achievements, smiles, tears, and fears.

But, how do you tell someone to prepare to collect a history?

You don’t.

So, here is what I will tell everyone right now …

Grab a notebook. No, better yet, run to the store, and buy a new one. Take the first page out of that notebook. Understand, that the page is blank, everything you write in it, is YOUR choice.

There is no need to fill the page with things you do not want to. No one is telling you how to fill it. No one is telling you how meaningful it has to be. It is entirely your choice.

I will tell my children to stay fit, and to be healthy, so they can awake every morning with a new page to fill.

So that their time spent here, can fill a library a notebook pages, all of which were written on their own terms.

There is no reason at all to look back at your day, and wish something hasn’t happened. YOU and you alone are in control of that page.

Do not waste that opportunity.

Date: 8/31/2003 11:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 20956    i have one of these boxes. every year or so i get the urge to clean out my wardrobe and each time i stumble across this box and each time i pull it out and sift through it contents, reading school journals/diarys, letters from past friends and bf, cards and letters from my current bf, photos of lost friends and visited places, half written poems and thoughts .... man, there is just so much stuff in there. sometimes i get the urge to clean the box out and throw alot of it away, i mean after all alot of it is useless stuff. but i never can and i guess i never will. because throwing it away would be, in affect, throwing away memories, both good and bad. and despite the fact that there are events/people/places that i would sooner rather forget, i cant because each person and event that i have experienced has in some way influenced the person i am today. I think everyone should have a box. Good post
Date: 2/1/2005 12:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 53961    I have a ziplock bag in my dresser drawer with special cards I have received and things like the rose from my son's funeral and a rose from the man I am going to marry. He just doesn't know it yet -
