CHRISTIAN LOVE <<<Baby Girl Sandi>>>

  Author: 62187  Category:(Debate) Created:(8/26/2003 4:34:00 PM)

Since joining USM, I have authored a couple of posts, responded to several, and observed many more. In debate, I notice the usual crowd of people predictably lining up on one side or other of each issue. The debate quickly loses its point as several self-proclaimed ‘Christians’ endlessly preach Old Testament Morality, and accuse, everyone disagreeing with them, of ‘Christian Bashing,’ as if they were being herded to their own crucifixions.

I also claim to be Christian, although for many years Mother church has closed her doors to me. This has been a blessing, because I have been privileged to study His Word, without interference, of someone telling me, what they feel it says. I endeavor daily to live my life according to His Lessons. I have found that central to His Teachings are the concepts of Forgiveness, Tolerance of others, Love, and Self Sacrifice. When Christ Jesus walked the earth, he had followers, called disciples, because they alone were disciplined enough to heed his message, learn his creed, and apply his principles. Does have Christ have any disciples today?

Oh by the way… Those hotly debated Ten Commandments were condensed to TWO by our Lord the Christ. I refer to Mark 12 versus 29 through 31.

Thou shalt Love the Lord Thy God with all thy Heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength …. And the second is like unto it, namely this. Thou shalt Love thy neighbor as thyself ….

My question is this. Is Christ’s message of Love for one another, tolerance, and forgiveness, irrelevant (irreverent) to the Modern Church?

Please reply with Love in your heart and peace in your soul. <<<Baby Girl Sandi>>>

Christianity shouldn't lie in sacraments rather it should be people loving each other and respecting each other and believing in a common god. And I'm not even a christian and I believe that!
Date: 8/26/2003 4:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 48858    It is overshadowed by too many useless religious do's and dont's.
Date: 8/26/2003 5:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 13428    I would have to say I agree with you up to a point it should be about the Love of Christ but it also says (in the new testament) not forsakingthe assembling of ourselves together,as the manner of some is;but exhorting one anothernd so much more as you see the day approaching.Hebrews 105.I think it is wonderful the time alone that you spend studying gods word, but also hope you can find a good loving church to go to. God bless.
Date: 8/26/2003 5:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 47296    Little sis, I know well your feelings about the church closing it's doors to you. You have time and again shown an insight into the Word that is like a breathe of fresh air. You do not look to the word to try and prove others wrong or immoral, but to show the love Christ had for all.
Date: 8/26/2003 5:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 54987    Any message condoning love for one another, tolerance and forgiveness would be relevant to any church, temple, or synagogue.
Date: 8/27/2003 8:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 12835    I think Christ's words as a teacher are not irrelevant today, but ignored by many Christians. Just an observation, not a judgement...
Date: 8/27/2003 11:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 11240    Jesus words are powerful indeed. The Bible also gives us an insight into his actions. He defended his Father, OUR Father, and wasn't afraid of how he came across in so doing. The truth is, THE TRUTH. It really isn't so hard to deal with if you can understand that there IS ONE TRUTH, that which He Sees, Hears, Discerns. God Bless.
Date: 8/27/2003 11:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 15394    I don't think the words that are believed to be Gods words are unimportant ... but I often wonder at one trying to defend God... how can a mere mortal defend God, without being privvy to the big picture? Dare any of us assume or presume to KNOW that god needs defense, and take it upon ourselves to defend ?? Wouldn't a quiet prayer for thier hearts to be softened be a more appropriate action?

Date: 8/27/2003 3:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 1225    Baby Girl.... you go girl! I cannot agree with you more on all of your well stated and accurate points. Especially your observation that the same people on one side line up to debate the same people on the other side. I know I'm one of them, but it's just so much fun to debate.
Date: 8/27/2003 4:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 11240    I suppose one would know if He told them. God Bless.
