Talk about hypocrisy!!!!.....Zema

I was watching the news tonight over here in Australia and there was this story about how a Catholic Priest denied the rights of a little girl to make her first holy communion ....the reason being that her mother was a single woman...I think she never married...but who and what gives this man...who is supposed to represent God on earth, the right to take this right away from a child. Now the mother who has always been a good practising Catholic, a very nice person whom I believe helps with people less fortunate than herself, was undecidely and rightly so upset at this Priests decision. Well the television crew was hounding him and asking him the reasons why he wouldnt perform the ceremony for this little girl, who, I might add, had her new white dress and veil ready for this very special ceremony. I personally think that with the controversial abuse cases that are going on within the churches, that he would have gladly done this ...I was disgusted and no wonder people are turning away from the churches more and more. It's people like this man, who is nothing more than a bigot, that is turning me away from the churches....I do my praying in my own home...thats my church from now on.....

UPDATE:

After this went to air, the very same Priest decided that he would perform the ceremony....but the little girl and her mother are now attending another church with someone else to officiate....

This type of hypocrisy makes me so mad....grrrrrrr

But as usual in Luv and Peace....Zema

Date: 8/26/2003 6:35:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    thanks Katherine, you should have seen the little girl on telly, she was lovely and apparently for a young girl she was pretty religious, all due to her mothers upbringing, and this so called Priest shot her down in flames...terrible...hugs hun MIL

Date: 8/26/2003 6:48:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    you're so right there Base....its beginning to look like an ongoing saga over here with all this religious goings on, thanks for your comment hun....hugs
Date: 8/26/2003 6:55:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    thanks Amanda for your comment hun and yes, it doesnt really surprise me, but it still makes me mad....hugs hun...
Date: 8/26/2003 7:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 40530    That's horrible
Date: 8/26/2003 7:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 30747    Yep makes me mad too Zema. It's people like that that give Chrisianity a bad name. It's for that reason that I avoid organized religion myself and prefer to "worship" God in my own way. Have you ever seen the movie "Joshua"? It addresses this very issue in a round about way. I guarantee that anyone who watches that movie will find some kind of peace and love in their heart. It's very very uplifting. *Smiles*
Date: 8/26/2003 7:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 54247    Good ending. Sometimes Right wins over Wrong! RAT
Date: 8/26/2003 7:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 24856    God would surely shake his head on this one....organized religion has surely lost its way
Date: 8/26/2003 7:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 15394    My father was a Catholic, and decided to leave the church when his father passed away without receiving last rights, and was refused a catholic burial... my boyfriend also used to be catholic but was excommunicated along with his mother, when she decided to get a divorce back in the 50's... a young child with NO control over what his mother did, so he was excommunicated... sad really.
Date: 8/26/2003 8:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 27046    I am Catholic, and my children are not baptised partly for this reason. When I had my daughter my husband and I were not married and we split up. I called a friend of the family who is a priest, and also the one that did my classes so I could convert. On the phone he asked me if I was married and when I said no, he told me to stop in and we would discuss baptising my daughter. He ended up discussing it by himself and neither of my children are baptised. I prefer it this way also, they are free to choose their own religion.
Date: 8/26/2003 9:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    There are 2 parishes in my hometown. One is known for not doing anything for anyone unless they are an "active" member of the church (meaning they're up to date on their donations). The priest won't perform weddings, baptisms or funeral services for anyone outside of his congregation and will not allow "his" church to be used if another priest wishes to perform the ceremony. The other (that I grew up attending) is exactly the oppisite. Father Leo will do almost anything for anyone. "His" building belongs to God and everyone who wishes to worship there, even if that's only occasionally. He doesn't believe that promoting faith should cause a loss of faith because of traditional hoop jumping. I happen to agree with him.
Date: 8/26/2003 9:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 51463    i got kicked out of church because my parents never married and only lived together =-bootz-=
Date: 8/26/2003 10:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 3125    They allow pedophiles and homosexual bishops and adulterers, but not an innocent little child and a single mother??? How downright ridiculous!!
Date: 8/26/2003 11:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 53284    Every day it seems that some church official somewhere does something that would seem to be contrary to the teachings of that religion. We all need to remember that religions are composed of people and people are less than perfect regardless of their calling.
Date: 8/26/2003 1:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 13546    My goodness.. it never seems to end.. things like this pop up so often, and it is NOT right at all , it just keeps getting more insane!... I've never been to church, and I won't start any time soon..
Date: 8/26/2003 6:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 20956    yeah, i saw this on the news last nite too Zema! i thought the whole situation stunk and i am glad they left that church and went somewhere else!
Date: 8/26/2003 7:09:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    thanks to everyone who commented here...when I was a little girl, I remember a large blackboard outside the church that I attended and it had all these names on it...unbeknown to me at that time, they were the names of people who had not paid monies to keep their souls out of purgatory....I didnt realize this until I grew older and it disgusted me, anyway someone kept pulling the board down and in the finish it was left down....these so called good priests, are supposed to be representative of God here on earth, and from what I see of them, they are on a power trip to use the church, the bible and the word of God to their own advantage, if this is what Christianity is supposed to be about, I will follow my ideas of what I consider to be a good christian....thank you all and hugs...
Date: 8/26/2003 7:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    I agree with you as God said, LET the little children come unto me. So what if she is a single mother. If the catholic church had their way, the only ones that could get into church would be those married and had two dozen children. They are hypocrites at the most high. LETs not let a little girl do this, but let the bishops molest all the kids they can get thier hands on. THAT church disgusts me.
Date: 8/26/2003 7:53:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    thanks FB for your words here hun, I'm Catholic and it disgusts me no end....I have to say also, not that I'm standing up for the Catholic Church, but we have had a lot of trouble with child sex abuse cases amongst our esteemed Anglican Churches as well, and what puts icing on the cake so to say, the one religious group that was held in high standing over here, The Salvation Army!!!! is being investigated due to claims being made against their homes for orphans of sexual abuse and outright cruelty....what on earth has been happening to the children that have been placed in care of these people, the Catholics, the Anglicans (we just got rid of our Governor General, Peter Hollingsworth) who was head of our Anglican church before becoming our GG, and who covered up the terrible scandal of sexual claims made by men and women during his time as Archbishop, and now the Salvation Army, woahhhhhhhhhhh!!! I have a whole new attitude to this people....hugs hun....
Date: 8/26/2003 8:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    Now you see why I just dont go to church anymore. There is corruption in so many of them.
Date: 8/26/2003 8:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    Your right, it doesnt just go on in the catholic church, but when I remember what that branch did , the inquistions when so many people were affraid to go against them. When I see them abusing the word of God for personal gain, and punishment of others, that is not their right to dish out. WEll it makes me angry. In the beginning when JEsus walked the earth it was that roman empire religiouse leaders that wanted NO part of him. The only reason they finally included him as part of their doctrin, is because they were affraid of losing all their people. I care for the people that are catholic, but the higher ups, KNOWING what they are doing is wrong, Naw, I just dont care for that. Good post.
Date: 8/26/2003 8:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    Zema, I could write volummes, but I won't. I'm a former Catholic, my children were Babtized, recieved first Communion, attended Catholic grade schools, high schools. I spent thousands and thousands of hard earned money as a divorced single Mom, because I thought I was doing the 'right thing". Hah! Never again will I be mindless, driven by religion. I do not feel "cheated" or a sense of "loss", simply that I now apply logic and reason to life. Years and years of "faith" and "belief" are not lost, quite simply, I think for myself now, and I FEEL with my heart. Excellent post Sis! And Christopher was so happy recieving that postcard with the Kangoroos! You made his day. Steven started school before him and he can' wait, was feeling left till he got your card. He is still carrying it around!
Date: 8/26/2003 8:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    Yikes! Those typos, I'm tired, work and school starting, lots of other things going on too.
Date: 8/26/2003 11:40:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    thanks FB once again and Brenda also, I suppose we could write a book on the injustices done to genuinely good people that the church turned their back on....doesnt mean that I dont still have my faith, just look at it in a much different light...I know also that there must be the true, kind and good Priests, Ministers etc, but the more I read about the goings on within the churches, only makes me more determined to live my life in the way that I do, and thats without any Priest telling me that I have to confess my sins to him, judge people who got divorced through no fault of their own and the list goes on and on.....so thanks everyone for your words here....hugs to you all...
Date: 8/27/2003 1:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 28946    He was a hypocrit in the biggest way and I bet he will be sent to a new parrish way in the outbacks from society. He was in the wrong and now a another child will bear the scars of humiliation by someone that was supposed to help the innocent.
Date: 8/27/2003 9:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 16671    Amen sister.
Date: 8/27/2003 6:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    You are so right Penny sis....I get so disgusted every time I think of this....hugs
