The introduction stinks, but it shows the basic intro to the book.

INTRO "All right , Throw a freaking strike. All you need is one more strike. This batter has nothing one you. What the heck are you doing playing with her. She can't hit worth crap. If that blind umpire ever decides to call a freaking strike I'll be okay." How else do you expect to hear when you listen to a focused troubled pitcher. Skylir Toolers is your ordinary 16 year old pitcher. Right now she is in the middle of the championship game of the State National tournament in Sinnourton, CA. She pitches for an awesome team, the Freedville Flames. This maybe the toughest game that she has ever pitched in, but she also has other things on her mine. Not only what her boyfriend is doing while waiting for her to get done, so they can go to the Jumpstart concert, but Skylir is worrying when the next out break of her other "talents" will surface. "That batter just needs to hit the ball. Why is she so scared of me. Geese, Why can't i just pitch with out getting any thoughts from anyone else. They think out loud too much. What am i talking about, you are thinking out loud! Pitch the dang ball. Your boyfriend is waiting for you at the concert. The sooner you get game over with, the sooner you can see him. . . Yeah, i bet he's totally just sitting in his room thinking, I wonder where Skylir is? What has she got her self into now? Has she blown anything up? Has she created a crowd of people asking for readings. Oh my gosh, Pitch. . . The batter is waiting. Focus. Focus. Focus. . ." That is a lot of thoughts to be running through a pitcher's head when she is supposed to be focused! A mile a minute that girl thinks. Skylir is not any ordinary girl. She almost leads two lives. In one life she goes to private school, Darinton Preparatory School, in the school's band and the lead pitcher for the softball team. In the other she is pulled into the opposite direction. She has many strange happenings. For some reason Skylir has a mission to fulfill. No one has told her this, but she knows it has to be done. She is conflicted with the occasional flashes of other persons' thoughts or the overwhelming feelings of troubled people. If every time you looked into someone eyes you saw flashes of thoughts, it would conflict you too. Skylir has to learn to harness her other talents. She must balance her outside life and the learning of her talents. Will the time that her performance of these other talents come before she goes crazy. Let's hope so.

CHAPTER ONE

Skylir wakes up, still in her softball uniform. Looks at the clock. It is 7:15 AM. She unfortunately had to leave 15 minutes ago. She grabs her wrinkled school uniform out of her drawer. Slicks some gel into her hair and washes all the dirt from under her fingernails. As Skylir stumbles out of her bedroom, she notices the Jumpstart tickets on her mirror. "Crap, I was supposed go to the Jumpstart concert with Robbie! How the heck could i forget that?" She notices the clock now says 7:30. Grabbing her backpack and keys, she runs out to her car. Skyler pulls into the school's parking lot at 8. She's late again. The only good thing about going to a private school is that you know everyone. She goes to check into the front office. "Why hello, Ms. Toolers. What is your excuse this time? Did your cat follow you to school? Or did your cereal run out?" "No, Mrs. Cummins. I just over slept. The homework is getting to me. I'm fine though." "Well, you better get to class. It is only the begging of first period. Your teacher shouldn't be too mad at you" "Bye! Thank you again" As Skylir turned to walk out of the office, She got a sudden flash of Mrs. Cummins running out from her desk, followed by the rest of the office members. Then Mrs. Cummins dashed out the door and towards the river behind the school. Then it flashed again and Skylir was still walking out of the office. "Are you sure you are okay?" Mrs. Cummins asked Skylir once again. "I'm great" Skylir replied. These sudden flashes are happening quite often lately. No one knows that this happens except her best friend Elizabeth Ross and her boyfriend Robbie Strassholffer. Skylir walks down the long gothic-style hallways. Many portraits hang evenly along the singled striped walls. The walls have a lingering smell of cooked cabbage and old socks. The aged pictures are of the past head masters of the school. They oddly all look similar in appearance. Skylir glances at one of the pictures, it seemed to blink. "Stop looking at me" She joked with the picture. Finally, Skylir came to the last door in the hallway, her class there period. She walked in silently and sat next to Robbie. The movie blared over their conversation. For some reason the teacher likes his movies played loud. "It makes you comprehend all the details of the movie and allows people to concentrate on the the movie. . . Even if people are talking. Isn't that right Skylir?" Mr. Struas said as she turned to Robbie to explain the previous night. Instead, she wrote him a quick note, trying to avoid anymore trouble with the teacher. She scratched: "I'm sorry i made you miss the Jumpstart concert. The game went into 12 innings. I got home, and while i was putting my clothes in the dryer i decided to lay down for a few minutes. But i ended up going to sleep. I'm really sorry. I've been doing that a lot latly" Skylir tossed the note to Robbie. She didn't stay facing him, because she knew that Robbie wanted to see that concert really bad. He had been waiting a month to see it. She then started to watch the movie. It was about the book they had just been reading in class. "How interesting, I never noticed that the character had a real name. . . " Skylir thought as she begun to drift off to sleep. She jerked awaked as the note hit her in the back of her head. Robbie laughed and pointed to it on the floor. In black pen was scratched: "Well, it could have been the 3 tests you had yesterday. Maybe it was the 3 hours of Band practice. Or possibly was it the 12 innings that you pitched last night? Who could ever guess what it was? Com' on, Skylir, Do you ever stop? I just hoped that you studied for our Calc. Test that we have today. I heard it was a killer. And also Liz was looking for you before school. She didn't expect you to be on time today after the game you had last night. Liz said that even she was tired. She has never caught for 12 innings before." Skylir smiled at Robbie hoping that she would not have to explain what else happened. Her sleepiness was getting to her again, and she drifted asleep for about two seconds. She felt another note hit her head. Again it was from Robbie. "Throwing a note at my head is so dang amusing to him isn't it", Skylir said, as she opened the note. It read: "By the way, what else happened? Do you think i'm that stupid not to see that you couldn't have been that tired to miss the only Jumpstart concert of the year?" She turned back to him and said out loud " I thought i was the psychic here?" "You don't have to be it you've known someone for 5 appalling years" "Oh, yeah, Knowing you for 5 years hasn't been all that great either" They both grinned and turned to watch the movie. Skylir knew that she had gotten away with not telling him what happened this time. But soon he will want to know. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The lightning crashed as Skylir and Liz ran across the court yard to their next class. Skylir stopped about half way with a ravished look on her face. "It's coming". "What are you talking about now. It already came. The rain already came. Now hurry, it's starting to rain harder." Liz yelled to her, already under the cover of building's ledge. Another flash of lightning crashed through the sky, and Skylir rushed to the safety of the tall grey building. There are always the normal 7th period storm, but this one seemed different to Skylir."Something is coming Liz. I just can't put words to it yet. I bet as soon as it happens i will know. I hate when i can't just see what happens. What is all the mystery for?" "You are crazy. I know you are good at predicting things, but they are nothing but things like who couple is going to break up first. I think you are over reacting a little bit this time." Liz said. "But i can like feel it in the air. The wind is different. It has a different feel in it. Like it is more uhh... textured." "Textured, yeah i bet. Maybe it was the rain hitting you. Lets just get to band. I haven't played my Flute in forever." " Wait, i have to tell you something. Today when i was checking in the font office. I got this vision. I've never gotten one before. But it was weird. It was just a flash. I saw the whole faculty running out of the office. The Headmaster was leading. They ran towards the river. Then i came back I don't know what i means either. It wasn't a good feeling either. They were trying to keep it from students. " "Well, Skylir. I think you just need some sleep & you will be okay. I mean, nothing bad will happen, It has never happen to our school before. Just because you are used to seeing frights everyday, like what happened at your old school, doesn't mean that it happens here. I've been at this school since 6th grade. It is the dullest school ever. Nothing weird happens. Even a with a weird person like you going here. I promise." " I'm totally not weird... What are you talking about Liz?!" Skylir said sarcastically as they walked into the auditorium doors for band class.

***** Sorry for all the mistakes! I think you can make out what they are supposed to be. ~* Sparrowhawk *~
