Who's Fault Is It?

Here's a few quotes from Foreign Relations Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez about the plight of migration into the US of Mexicans.

Speaking at an event organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Mexico City, Derbez said Washington has to "view migration as a positive thing" and can no longer afford to ignore the plight of millions of Mexicans who risk their lives to sneak into the United States and go to work.

Every year, thousands of illegal migrants from Mexico, Central America and around the world die trying to sneak into the United States, a fact that Derbez called "a first-class violation of human rights" and "a daily struggle with global implications."

I live in a border state and we've already had over 350 deaths in 2003 from people trying to cross the border illegally. A sad statistic but is it really a human rights violation by the United States or should Mexico work on fixing their own countries problems so their citizens don't feel the need to flee their own country. If they can't even run their own country properly where do they get off telling us how to run ours. What is the United States supposed to do to decrease the deaths that they haven't already done.

Are the deaths of illegal immigrants from Mexico, Mexico's or the United States fault?

Date: 8/13/2003 3:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 45630    I've got no time for people who enter a country illegelly. I hate them. We have this problem in Australia. So many people work hard and lawfully to get into Australia. This is ruined by people who do not. Are we to tell our children that it is alright to break the law as long as it is for a good reason.
Date: 8/13/2003 3:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 22852    It is the fault of the person trying to get away with doing something that is Illegal.

Date: 8/13/2003 4:07:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    that would be holding the person responsible for their actions Stormchaser, that's a dead and gone concept, it's all about placing the blame now
Date: 8/14/2003 5:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    Close the borders. get over the resistance to imigration by the labor unions and protectionists, and let people in. Illegal immigration exists because because we have so seriously curtailed cross border immigration with the exception of political refugees. There are jobs for these people, these people want to work. Let them in at border crossings, fingerprint them, give them I.D.'s and Federal income tax numbers so they can pay taxes, give them 3 years to learn english and become citizens or be deported. Let them in through the gate not under the fence and get them in the system.
Date: 8/14/2003 8:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 22080    these migrants should know that this stuff is potentially fatal, im sorry i dont want my economy to drop because another country and ours cant control their borders
Date: 8/14/2003 9:59:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    probably would work BCAR but doubt it'll happen
Date: 8/14/2003 9:59:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    most probably do know it's fatal jestr but they're willing to risk their life to get here
Date: 8/14/2003 10:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    then its their own fault
