How could anyone live in a place like this? *PunkStarChiK*

Hey Everyone :)

I just spent my whole weekend cleaning my boyfriend's grandma's house. I couldn't believe how much of a dump her place was! There were flies, fleas, spiders and bugs just almost everywhere. Oh and rats and mice too. A bunch of spiderwebs hanging everywhere. (Hate spiders! Had a big black nasty one drop onto my shoulder yesterday..ew!)

The cat litter box hasn't been changed in the longest time. There were clumbs of cat poop all over the house, especially the hallway. It was so nasty. There are three cats living there too and the cats pretty much ruled the house. Thick cat fur were everywhere! I have never seen so much cat fur all over in a house before. You could almost build a couple dozen new cats which how much fur was all over the place.

Food was rottening in the kitchen and dinning room. Trash was everywhere! You couldn't almost move around the place. While we were cleaning the place, we had to be careful of uncle Tim's stuff. He was a major druggie but thankfully we didn't find any of his stuff or any needles poking around and thank god he is no longer living there.

Grandma is a major pack rat. She'll buy stuff and not use them and toss them into bags in the house and forget about them. She has so many yarn, fabrics and all sorts of arts and crafts all over the house. She also reads a lot and everyroom you went to, there were piles of books covered with cat fur and cobwebs on them.

I don't understand how someone could live like this. Grandma is still pretty healthy and she can move around just fine. Even after her car accident she had several weeks ago which she amazingly survived. I guess she doesn't care too much about cleaning or something because she said she felt comfortable with everything. She didn't like the idea of us cleaning up her place but it really had to be done. It was just all too awful.

After three days of cleaning, the place looked so much better. Grandma was really impressed and is very well happy. I'm going to be visiting her about three times a week starting this week to check up on her and make sure things don't get messed up again. She looks forward for my visit, even though we haven't acutally known each other much but I know that she could use the visit and I could have someone to talk to. :) She is a real sweety and likes to talk a lot.

Just wanted to tell you all how my weekend went. It was fun, tireing, intersting and all. Also found a lot of old stuff that are antiques and worth a lot of money. Coins, old baseball cards real old soda bottles and soda pop cans and much more. (I didn't know there was a diet dr pepper with lemon in a blue soda can. Its about 20 years old or more. Still got soda in it too!) We also found a bunch of Silver One Dollar bills. Ever seen one of those? It was an intersting weekend. But I'm glad that we got to help clean up her place. :)

Date: 8/3/2003 10:57:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Midnightly...Yeah, I'm happy to go over to her place to check up on her. She can't around too much anymore since her car is gone from her accident.
Date: 8/3/2003 11:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 53900    Yes I have et people who live like that...I feel kinda sorry for them. It is good that you will be helping your grandma out though.
Date: 8/3/2003 11:36:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Jessica....We feel sorry for what has happened to her also. It was a very good thing what we did for her.
Date: 8/4/2003 7:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 8278    i think it is very sweet what you are doing for her. i have 4 cats so i know how stinky their litter can be if not changed regularly. it probably helps her alot to have you stop by there. and the company is probably very welcome. i know my grandparents use to love having people stop by for a visit. they would get so lonely. you have a wonderful heart!
Date: 8/4/2003 7:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 54247    Rough and exhausting job! But you seem to like her - so, enjoy! You are right on - frequent visits and you can dump the litter! Thank you for setting an example! RAT
Date: 8/4/2003 7:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 23796    I have a theory (Just a theory mind you) That a persons house often reflects the way they feel on the inside. If your depressed or never have visitors, you'd be less inclined to clean. Why bother, doesn't bother you, no one ever visits anyway..etc. I have no problem with people living that way as long as they have no one else they are responsible for living with them (Such as children) It is dangerous and unhealthy for a child to live like that.
Date: 8/4/2003 7:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 44321    You are a good hearted person PSC I am glad you helped grandma out that way and cleaned up for her,I don't know why anyone wants to live like that but they do.But if you keep up with dropping by to see her you can make sure all stays nice and clean and keep the litter pan/pans fresh.I am surprised nobody is sick from living with all that in the house. But karma will be smiling on you thats for sure
Date: 8/4/2003 3:26:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Cage...All of my grandparents passed away except for one who is in a nursing home and I haven't seen her in a long time. I wish that I could though but I don't have the money or time to visit her where she is at. I'm real glad to be able to spend time her.
Date: 8/4/2003 3:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    RAT...Yup, that's one of the main things I will be checkin up on is the litter box. The cats were so happy when I changed their litter box a couple days ago.LOL!
Date: 8/4/2003 3:30:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Lady S....I wouldn' doubt it if she was feeling depressed. I don't think that she gets too many visits. Every now and then my bf's mom visits her and sometimes my bf's dad does too. The next door neighbor are really helpful too and they talk a lot. Grandma is also a teacher or a helper in an elementry school and she is very happy to be there. Grandma used to have Uncle Tim and Debbie living there and they would just trash the place. Thankfully Tim isn't allowed in that place anymore but sucks that they just left the house like that how it was.
Date: 8/4/2003 3:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Medusa....We're surprized that no one has gotten sick from how the house was too. The place still needs to be worked on but only little things here and there and I'll be able to help out with that. We might plan another weekend to do more house cleaning inside and out.
Date: 8/4/2003 3:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 15394    what a neet thing for you to do !!! I'm sooooo happy that you cared enough to do it and care enough to go back again!!! so cool I can't say enough how I wish people would reach out... even if it is to say hi and chat!! KUDOS TO YOU!!!!
Date: 8/4/2003 4:02:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    Jungabel...I'm feelin a lil nervous about going over there by myself. LOL! My bf's dad is offering to pay me to check up on grandma and the house but I really don't want too much money from him. It's a good thing to do and I'm happy to do it. She sure can use the company and I could really use the time to be doing something and having someone to talk with.
